Did you have a problem with some of the things in our video on Calvinism? Well, Jacobus Arminius would have wholeheartedly agreed with you! Today, we continue our series on the foreknowledge of God and ask, "What is Arminianism?"

The Arminians objected to five tenets of Calvinism in the Remonstrance. THEN AFTERWARD the 5 points of Calvinism ("TULIP") came into being.

Very fair assessment of Arminianism which is basically a biblical response to the flawed pillars supporting Calvin's heretical belief system which began undermining Christianity in the 1500's. The only controversial point about Arminianism is concerning Foreknowledge, the idea that "God looks down the corridor of time to see who will choose Him" which can't be supported biblically. In fact, what's kept the controversy going all these centuries is there's little difference between God creating certain people with the express purpose of destroying them vs creating them knowing they'll ultimately reject His call and be destroyed. IOW, if their destruction was a foreknown certainty when they were created, then they were created for destruction and the difference is merely academic. Calvinism has a distorted view of God's sovereignty, Arminianism has a faulty view of His foreknowledge, and both misunderstand the free will God has given to mankind.

I'm still not sure what Arminiums himself believed or taught but I disagree with part of Calvin's doctrine AND I disagree with those Arminians who say or imply that we are saved by our decisions. Instead of arguing with each other (or consigning people to hell fire for explaining God differently than we do) it would be better for everyone to try to understand other perspectives than our own. People who do that can learn from each other.

So much time and effort is spent on these 2 men's interpretation of scripture.
People are so stupid in that they believe one is right and one is wrong and base their entire belief system on one or the other .
Ever considered they are both wrong . Seek Gods face only . Count every man a liar, but God true.

Sad that you're not into back and forth conversation about the gospel.

Hey bro, you left out the part where the Remonstrants were labelled heretics and expelled from Holland (Synod @ Dort 1618-1619). You also failed to mention how the Remonstrants eventually abandoned the faith altogether. Arminianism should not be taught as an alternative to Calvinism or as a legitimate soteriology. It is a heresy.

Martin Luther described the book of Romans as the ""clearest Gospel of all." In Romans 5, the doctrine of "The Two Adams" is the most neglected doctrine in all of Christendom. Paul discusses mankind's situation in Adam in verses 12-14:

Adam is a type, a figure, a pattern of Christ. "Adam is a type of Him who was to come." In what sense is Adam a type, or similar to Christ?
Was it in sin that Adam was a type of Christ? No, for Christ never sinned.

Adam and Christ are similar, they are parallels, and it's this: What Adam did affected all mankind (Adam means mankind). And what Christ did affected all mankind.
Adam sinned; Christ obeyed. Adam brought condemnation and death; Christ brought justification unto life to all mankind (Roman 5:18). Adam affected the whole world in sin and death. Christ reversed the condemnation and "justified" the existence of all mankind. This is the power of the Gospel Good News.

Arminians say that Adam affected the whole world in sin, but when Christ reversed the condemnation it only affected the believer. If that's true then Adam could not be a type of Christ since Adam affected all of mankind, not partial. The Gospel is not legal fiction. The whole world actually died in Christ, not offered to IF you do something first. Let's not get rid of the foundation of the Gospel. That is, what Christ accomplished for ALL MANKIND. 2 Corinthians 5:14 states:

"For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore died." It was not just that Christ died in place of us, but He died as us. God with us. Hence, the better good news is that the condemnation has been reversed, and Christ has now legally justified the existence of everyone in the world.

That is infinitely better good news than Arminianism. The fact is, one man legally condemned all people. One man legally redeemed all people. In Adam, the whole world stood legally condemned. The whole world belong on death row. But thank God for his gift of justification because God so loved the world.

Let's glory in the cross of Jesus, and not in an Arminianism limited atonement of provisional/offer view of salvation. First God "saved "the whole world from destruction and gave us the gift of Christ Jesus. Amen. Let's not throw away the gift already given! It's not a much-to-do-about-nothing issue, it's becoming untied in the faith of Christ Jesus, because it's the faith of Jesus that saves us, not ourselves.

"Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith OFJesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified" (Galatians 2:16).

1. The world is legally justified by the faith OF Jesus. 2. Then when we believe we are "justified by faith" OF Christ. Now we can rest in the work of Christ, not ours.
