"Having thrown the balls in the air I feel compelled to keep on juggling them."
That's a great phrase

I won't lie, I'm quite obsessed with GRRM's interviews. Love the way he speaks.

He really is a fascinating individual. I could listen to him talk all day.

3:02 "I forget real people instantly"
Lmao that reaction face of a somewhat famous person realizing that he will be lucky if the person he's talking to will remember him tomorrow is _gold_

Moral of the story:

Well, GRRM doesn't kinda forget.

People fail to realize this is why Martin's work takes so long and is so difficult to write

We need a history of world war II written by George RR Martin from all points of view

I'd guess the problem with this writing pattern are time-lines.
You can't easily manage various occurrences when they're happening through the eyes of various characters, it takes an immense amount of time to get it right, especially with 35 POV characters.
Let the man take his time, It'll be worth the wait, I'm sure.

Maybe my opinion is very far off but

I think this interviewer does a perfect job of LETTING THE MAN DO THE TALKING. I’m sure it’s edited to an extent, but these are in depth answers...enjoyable

This guy is a genius. There aren't writers like him too often, he is one in a million. He will be remembered one day, next to Tolkien.
But he is also king of lingering.

You think the ASOIAF series has a lot of characters? Try reading the Targaryen history book Fire & Blood. Goodluck keeping track of who's who.

That "hehehe" was filled with regret😂 Really love the vast amount of characters though.

4:19 I feel vindicated. After so many dumb arguments about whether it was thematically appropriate to kill off the Night King at the Battle of Winterfell, and follow it up with the sacking of King's Landing, here's the author himself laying it out:

*NO IT BLOODY WELL ISN'T*

The strategy of creating many characters has the short-term gain of keeping the audience from feeling safe about the fates of main characters, but it takes on a long-term debt to resolve all those character arcs satisfactorily and roughly at the same time. The show writers couldn’t pay off that debt convincingly, but I wonder if GRRM can in his books.

4:20 GRRM: the petty struggle for the Iron Throne is just a distraction from the real threat, the Long Night
HBO: LOL the Long Night is just a slight distraction, all that matters is who's gonna be king, who's gonna be on the small council in the end
