I was positively surprised to see Carolyne Larrington on stage. Her book "The Norse Myths" was a brilliant introduction to Norse mythology. I am also excited to read her translation of the Poetic Edda when I finish some on-going books. I know she has written three books about Martin's world, so she was a very fitting host. Fantastic interview.

I had an old dad. He definitely declined around 80, but he was constantly writing and he was a brilliant person. I'm glad to see GRRM sounding so sharp, and I'm confident WoW will come out soon. Can't say about DoS but I'm encouraged and definitely think this guy is as close to a literary genius as one could be, if not a true genius. His works and their adaptations have given me enough joy and stimulated my imagination in my adulthood where I can be satisfied (though not thrilled) with what we have now. Of course I want the story to be finished, but if you allow yourself to be satisfied with mediocrity as an artist, that's how you'll be remembered in the end.

I find it so - *funny?* - that he's literally just such a warm teddy bear, yet also capable of writing the Red Wedding

Been 10 years since I first read his books and became obsessive about them but it's still great to hear George talk about his world. Great interview!

Went here to just to check out how George is like nowadays. I expected to watch parts of the video just for like 3 minutes but I was absolutely captivated by his thoughts, jokes, and that whole Book vs Adaptation thing. Glad to see GRRM is still GRRM

Fantastic stuff but lol at the guy trying to ask a Rhaegar question at the end and being cut off, guess we'll never know if he's misunderstood or not (until Winds comes out)

Those who wanted to know what i was going to ask about rhaegar, i wanted to ask him what was rhaegar like was he similar to dany at all, we only have small information on him, i wanted to know what his plan was for aerys and just more information about rhaegar as a whole

I LOVE his take on real magic vs fake science. Fantasy must take care not to tell itself through a "scientistic" lens, and to open itself up to the weird and the eerie. This overindulgence in systemic thinking is taking all of the strange out of our stories, not just the fantasy ones.
