He is a perfectionist. And that's perhaps why we didn't get the book yet. We love the story. As much as we hate the wait, i believe it will be worth it in the end

"On October 17, 2023, Martin appeared at an event with Cassandra Clare, where the pair conducted a casual two way interview, with each asking the other on their experience as authors, their material, recent happenings, etc. During the talk, Clare commented on the release date for her next book as being in March of 2025, to which Martin replied "The depressing thing is that still might beat Winds of Winter""

I’ve just started reading the books. I’m on the first one and I stay up reading it almost every night! I’m glad you’ve continued working on the book, George. As a writer myself, I know the writing process is often brutally difficult, and I can’t imagine how much worse it is for writing a massive world like Westeros. We love you, George!

Honestly this makes me feel more optimistic about it. 1500 pages roughly is insane. I'm sure at his age it's difficult to complete this while he has other more time sensitive projects he gets wisked into like House of Dragon and Elden Ring. HoD he might not be the main writer but I'm sure he's consulted on stuff a lot

Really feeling bad for George here. I’m an old fan and have run the gamut of emotions waiting first for Feast, then for Dance, and now for Winds. But I really do believe he’s a genius who has dreamed up this incredible world and the pressure he must feel is something I can’t even hold in my head. The man can take his time, as far as I’m concerned. All the time he needs to make it as good as he can make it. And maybe we won’t actually see a Dream of Spring, but that won’t lessen his contribution to the human imagination.

I think we all need to accept that this 74 year old man is doing his damnest to not only write the biggest sequel to an already well established story but also make the best show on television right now and is doing many other personal projects while also just living his life.
