Welcome back for another Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire update video. In this video, I will be talking about George R.R. Martin's new interview with The Hollywood Reporter. In a new interview, George R.R. Martin finally admitted he may not be able to finish writing his A Song of Ice and Fire fantasy saga. Although many fans have believed this for years, it's the first time the author has considered the possibility publicly. This is a stunning turn of events. Do you still think he will release the Winds of Winter or A Dream of Spring?

I still believe we will see Winds of Winter, but I'm not sure if A Dream of Spring will release in his lifetime. His writing process would have to drastically change for that to happen. However, I do hope I am wrong. I want to see his complete story. It would be a tragedy if it never released. Leave me your thoughts down below. How does this make you feel? Thanks for watching!

A champion boxer once said: it's hard to get up and work for it, when you're waking up in silk sheets.

He should at least write a 500 page summary of the major plot points of last 2 books. Let us all get on with our lives

I met R.A. Salvatore at NYCC back in October and I thanked him for being one of the fantasy writers that completes their trilogies.

Since I've been saying this for a while now, I'm not surprised. The first book had 8 POV characters, the second book had 9, the third book had 10. So you see we have a gradual increase in POV characters (and thus story arcs) over time. 'A Feast for Crows' had 12 POV characters, but 'A Dance with Dragons' had 16. *SIXTEEN!*

GRRM has completely lost control of the story. That's the danger of being a gardener; if you don't keep on top of the pruning and weeding, you wind up with a totally overgrown weed lot.

Y'know George, you CAN hire collaborators. If Terry Pratchett, Robert Jordan, and Neil Gaiman asked for help with their stuff, YOU can too.

3:22 I think you nailed it here. Until the books are printed, you won't convince me that the show's ending wasn't the one he actually had in mind. Now he's scrambling to come up with an alternate, and/ or putting some time between the show and the final books. And that makes me sad, because I want to read HIS story, not the one he thinks fans will like. There's no "happy" ending to this story, and anyone who read the first five books knows it.

I can be as frustrated as others when it comes to wanting the rest of the series, but when I think of the scope and breadth of his stories, I can't help but be impressed at his creativity and worldbuilding. This helps me be more understanding because I don't have anything close to his imagination or knowledge of real-world history or mythology that he has drawn from to give us these stories. I am grateful for his talent and the works he has shared with us. I will continue to listen to and watch channels that delve deep into this world until it ends, one way or another.

I really hope he gives someone else the ropes to finish this story. I understand he can't finish it but it would be tragic to never get an ending.

Maybe George should just concentrate on the book instead of all the spin off shows

To me, the issue doesn't seem like it is about actually writing WoW, but making the twists, turns and plot movement unpredictable and satisfying. The issue is how some elements have been predicted and explored, by fans and by the show. GRRM should just plow through the book, not try to make it something its not, because that's why it has already, and may continue to take, forever to finish.

This man is the Chad of kickstarters. We’ve made him a very rich man and he is never going to give us what we bargained for. Life is too short to pay Martin anymore attention. There are people who began reading this series then lived loved lost and died never knowing how it ends. There is no ending. Just a bunch of people scrutinizing highly published toilet paper. There are entire libraries of books that are actually finished, more than one person can read and appreciate in a lifetime. For every person that picks up a book in this series, an angel loses its wings and becomes a telemarketer.

Author here.

I’ve always believed that Martin’s desire to surprise and do twists on established plot tropes is his greatest weakness.

Originality in creating fiction is good. Valued even. However, when you write twists for the sake of writing twists, you can end up writing yourself into a corner with no way out. And I think that’s what happened here.

It breaks my heart to admit this, but I don’t think I care anymore. Of course, I’ll pick up Winds the second it’s available, but I think we have all known for years now, that Dream is never coming. It’ll be wonderful to finally progress story beyond Dance, but once we finish Winds, we’re stuck at another roadblock. It’s a genuine tragedy that such an incredible story has no ending, and therefore no closure.

George needs a team to help him write AND he needs to train a young and talented writer to be his successor in case he can't finish SoIaF.

As a show watcher turned book reader of this saga myself, I have long since given up on GRRM. When my hopes and dreams, and anticipated expectations were subverted by Dan and Dave I lost hope then. I vowed to NEVER, EVER get so emotionally or mentally involved in fictional characters of any story I ever read for the rest of my life. That is how deeply I was cut by the whole ending, the wait, the anticipatory glee that once resided in me. He suffers from follow through syndrome and unfortunately for him he has sidetracked this ending for so long, he has not made it his priority to finish so I see no reason to wait with baited breath when there are other stories by other authors to enjoy. The books of the SOIAF are classic pieces of outstanding fantasy literature, whether architect or gardener as he may identify as, the truth is simple, he lost something along the way that allowed this delay and possible inevitability to happen. We don’t know what that may be, we can speculate endlessly, but just as we cannot expect him to finish the story, he cannot expect us to wait and hang in forever.

U got this george 😢 dont give up on us, we're still waiting. If this ends up happening we'll be stuck with s8 as the only ending to the series 😭😭

I hope GRRM hires someone to get it done. It’s an epic series. Don’t let it be an epic regret. And let go of the 7 novel limit. That’s probably half the problem.

I know from my own work when I take too much time to think of everything I become too critical at my own work, especially the stuff I haven’t touched on for the longest period of time. It’s because of your personal growth, you always keep improving. Thats why it is essential to finish things and deliver in smaller packages, so it is out there. It doesn’t give you the opportunity to revise, polish, rework and do everything over and over again.
