True. Some people live by that motto and in their being so right, they completely miss the essence of human relationships which should be anchored in love and empathy and helping each other.

My narcissistic family taught me that they were always right and I was always wrong. I projected this into all other relationships thinking everybody was always right and I was the only one getting everything wrong. This made me put out considerable effort to fix everything that was supposedly broken about me and get right. Now, I'm pushing 50 and life is proving me right in the long run more and more while at the same time proving all the know-it-alls wrong, and it's built confidence while at the same time making me fed up with people telling me I'm wrong about everything. But even so, I still remain open-minded and flexible because that's where wisdom comes from and you become a fool the moment you decide you know everything. And wouldn't you know that the more I'm proven right, the more aggressively they assert that I'm wrong and accuse me of being close minded and unbending when the whole way I got to this point was precisely for being the most open minded and flexible person they know. The hardest part is validating myself and not letting them convince me I'm being arrogant for doing so.

SIGN language. Shame, insults, guilt and need to be right.

As with everything else in the narc-dom, it all comes down to 1 thing - themselves! And yet, without our supply, where would they be? Are you smiling yet? Stay Healthy!

So TRUE 🎯💯 Thank you! Too many people want to be "right" & win the argument so badly that they're unaware of how close-minded & arrogant (sometimes ignorant) they're being. They apparently value their correctness (ego) over the relationship with the person involved (and value themselves over those people).

I think Aristotle said, "We do not know what we don't know." So, why shouldn't we listen to others express their knowledge & pts of view? We can consider info and UNDERSTAND &/or ACCEPT the person's perspective even if we disagree with the main content. That takes an open mind & empathy, which unfortunately, many people don't have.

He didn't understand that his level of expectation was too much for the people he talked to. Their are open-minded people who can talk to people on whatever level they're on.
Alot of us are hurt people but are able to open up and reveal our pains because it helps us, but the narcissists put on the invincible mask and don't seem to admit they need help.

So, right. Dr. C! In this instance, there is no wrong about it. You embody patience, collaboration, affirmation, generosity, curiosity, acceptance, and empathy. LOVE...is never wrong. I am always listening to the wisdom you offer. Thank you.

Except for those who can love AND be right 😁

This resonates. I personally have been a black and white thinker and I have put being right above anything. Thankfully I now see the world as a grey area and believe that two people can be right even tho they both have differing perceptions of the same experience. Being right exclusively isn't always being right exclusively.

My dad used to say - I am right, I am right, even when I know I am wrong, I am right!

Yeah.. and then she committed work comp fraud, her son ended up in prison, her daughter dropped out of college because there was no financial planning.. and of course I was so right that I was wrong. I was the one that was selfish, greedy, controlling… be careful that they don’t flip this on you as you lose yourself. Told.. “you’re not wrong”.. yeah, because I was right.. and they were so wrong. Glad I got out before I got sucked into all that. I was so right, that I was right.
