In this video, we’re going to talk about how much weight you can lose while fasting. We’re talking about intermittent fasting alone, not with keto. Someone doing a health keto diet alone can lose around 2 lbs of fat per week if they have a healthy metabolism. But what about fasting?

It is possible to lose 1/2 (.227 kg) lb per day while fasting. That’s 3.5 lbs (1.58 kg) per week.

Keep in mind that these are in a best-case-scenario. You’re not going to lose more than this amount.

If you’re just starting out, you might lose 7-15 lbs in the first week. This is mostly going to be water weight. Water stored in glycogen will release, which will cause you to get rid of a lot of water at first. There are 3-3.8 grams of water per gram of stored glucose (glycogen).

Glycogen is like a fluid-filled sponge. When you fast, you use up the glycogen in your liver fairly quickly, which dumps a lot of water.

There are many factors that play into how much weight you will lose while fasting, including:
• Age
• Activity level
• Gender
• Metabolism
• Overall health
• Diet
• Stress level

Hi Dr Berg. I'm 54. I put on 15 kilos when I had my child (20 years ago) which I never quite lost. Last year, due to my work, I managed to put on another 15 kilos - 1 YEAR totalling 30 kilos (66 pounds). I had never felt this bad considering that before the my son I was quite skinny. I went on a spiritual fast (no food) for about sixty days and lost 30 kilos. No side effects, checked my vitals from time to time, no dizziness, no hunger. I feel great! As long as you have fat on your body, you can fast. After this it's intermittent fasting and keto all the way! Don't let age be a factor. Walking helps too!

Was 221 now 189. That's 32lbs in 7 weeks. Ate 2 meals a day and added a 1hr walk to my daily routine. Learned a lot during this time. No matter what your situation might be one of Dr. Berg's videos always hits home for any challenge you might face.

So...when my father first recommended that I watch your videos, I was a bit skeptical and hesitant to believe that fasting and keto can help you feel energetic while losing weight. See, a month ago, I was 250lbs...Now I am happy to say that I weigh 223lbs and still consistent with my 16 hour fasting and keto diet. I am amazed by the results! Goal is lose 50lbs in total!

Intermittent fasting is the best thing that I've ever done. Still eating moderate carbs, I only drink water now, my mind is clear and losing a minimum of 2.5lbs every week

When I straight up fasted for 3 weeks before I caved from missing food too much, I lost like 10-12 over the course of the very first week. Much of that appeared to have been water related weight. After that everyday on weighing I was loosing somewhere around 1/2 lb a day everyday as it was both gradual and consistent. It also varied depending on how much I slept. I’m not much a long sleeper, but I did try to get in at least 8 hrs sleep as normally I only sleep 4-5 hrs. But more sleep helped with more weight lost checking every morning I woke up.

At a certain point as well, I just stopped drinking water obsessively and just drank if I felt thirsty but adequately in amount, less obsessively. On some days I lost a full pound. But on average it seem somewhere 1/2 to 1lb a day weight loss. It felt encouraging once you straight up fasting and can break through the first 3-5 days which can feel like hell to go they but it’s all willpower and a huge test of it. After that it was now like euphoria and energetic high while fasting and loosing weight.

I've been doing 20+ hours fasting, OMAD (most days), low carbs/sugar (not necessarily keto).

I've lost 20-25 lbs in ~31 days.

I’ve lost 150 lbs in a little over a year intermittent fasting and walking. Could have lost even more if I stuck to it better.

For all the girls that have POCS: I consistently lose 500gr/1lb per week doing IF 20/4 or OMAD + Keto. Down to 1.5kg/3lbs adding two days of prolonged fast per week. It might be a bit slower compared to others, but you can do it too! I can't talk about the first weeks on keto, since I have been on IF for two years already, so the transition was a lot smoother.

I've been keto for many years and hit a plateau. Then I gained an extra 20lbs during quarantine. So I got serious in May, and I went clean keto with very little dairy. Then I changed my fasting regimen to a very rigorous 4:3 schedule (fast 3 days - eat 4 days). I have lost 31lbs. since May. That puts me 10lbs under my goal weight! I need to mention that I am 49, with celiac disease, and hypothyroidism. So the combination of fasting and keto is a game changer even for people who are premenopausal with metabolic disorders like hypothyroidism that make them very resistant to weight loss.
