People always criticize Maria and Tony's love because "they've only known each other for like a day". But this scene is why their "love at first sight" is so believable. They recognize how terrible everything and everyone is around them. They want "peace and quiet and open air" while the gangs just want violence and to have two separate worlds. Maria and Tony see that they both want the same thing. They both want things to be better. They both believe things can get better. That's love. Sadly, though, reality tears them apart. And this "Somewhere" is destroyed before it was even created.

Can’t believe this movie is nearly 60 years old. I just love the song and the cinematography. I see where Love Will Find A Way from the Lion King 2 got its inspiration. I hope the remakes take on the song is beautiful!

Tony said that nobody meant to kill each other, but that's so naive for someone that once belonged to a gang. Don't get me wrong. The movie is a masterpiece. The Jets and the Sharks don't compare to today's standards of tough and ruthless gangs, but that is a reflection of the times when the movie was made.

Ugh! I haven't seen this film in 20 some years. Time to re-watch. Everything about this film is gorgeous. The direction, the choreography, the singing, by others, but these 2 fake it beautifully, the screenplay, the music, and of course, the acting. Whew! Just top shelf gorgeous!❤❤
