Do not make graven images, yet your churches all around the world are full of idols..

"Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth" 🤔

James 3:1 Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.

Stop making excuses for your pope. You do not mess with God’s word. 🙏

The guy on the phone was unfortunately lost when the word "enumeration" was used. Protestants most often think that their questions are unique and no Catholic past or present has answered their questions ever in Church history. Its because they don't read Church history prior to 1521, the church fathers, or any of the great apologists. This, coupled with a ignorance of Judaism produces the assertions he was making. Christ died and left us the true Church 2000 years ago, not 500 years ago.

Thanks for the answer, but I seem to be a bit confused on why the distinction was made with regards to commandment no 9, and respectfuly, this methodology seems a bit inconsistent to me. You've removed commandment no.2 as no1 means the same thing so you say, but then you split commandment no9. If you going to hold to the distinction between coveting a physical position and coveting a neighbors wife, then why not also hold to the same distinction between making graven images (idols) and worshiping one God. If you say that by observing the commandment no 1 (only one God), you automatically observe no 2 (idolatry) then why bother drawing a distinction in regards to coveting? Would not no 9 be sufficient on its own?
If one was to apply you method of distinction consistently, why not leave commandment no 2 as commandment no 2 and then split no 9. So basically you'll have 11 commandments. Why does it seem that there's an effect to keep the number of commandments to 10.
Would be great full if anyone could clear it up for me.

Protestants label religious art (whether statuary, tapestries or stained glass) as "idols". They
cling to a different understanding of the 2nd Commandment in order to justify the argument that Catholics are "unbiblical". It offends them to see religious artworks in Catholic churches and chapels. So they use their interpretation of Exodus 20 as "proof" that Catholic Christians are evil, heretical, damned, etc.

Why did it have to be messed with at all? Why not just leave it the way it’s written. I’m Catholic too. Those were God’s words that should be sacred

Well to all those who dont know..here they re talking about the 10 commandments as per the official catholic teachings in the book they called CCC as per laid down by st Augustine in the 300ADs. But all Catholic bible versions do include prohibition of worshipping graven images..

It’s the Ten Commandments, the holy law of God. Not the seven deadly sins. Gods law is not up for interpretation or amendment. First comes death then the judgement. And we will be judged by Gods Law no matter how we interpret it. The only escape is an atonement. Without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin. That price has been paid. God provided it. On the cross. The holy lamb of God he’s only begotten Son Jesus. It is finished. Jesus said I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, the Only way to father. No idols, no saints only by putting our trust in Jesus and repent.
God bless you and may the truth of the real gospel be revealed unto you all.

Thankyou for answering this question. I've been looking for the answer to this for a long time and always came up with a dead end, but this segment answered it fully.

I know what that man is speaking. This is the REAL 10 COMMANDMENTS
THIS IS FROM THE HOLY BIBLE.
Exodus 20
King James Version
20 And God spake all these words, saying,

2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

7 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

13 Thou shalt not kill.

14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.

15 Thou shalt not steal.

16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

He didn't answer why the graven images commandment was taken out. He goes on a confusing explanation of canceling ceremonial laws. Paul clearly states that the handwritten ordinances were nailed at the cross. These pointed to Christ fulfilling them, the torn veil on the temple at His death is a clear sign. The ten commandments were written by God, never abolished. Deutoronomy and Revelation clearly warn against adding or taking away from Scriptures. Read the full commandment both in Deutoronomy and Exodus about the Sabbath and tell me that hasn't been changed. Where is the one about the worship of images? Read the original King James and you'll see that the Catholic Church has violated explicit biblical teachings not to add or take away. Do not be blinded by tradition in defending a clear violation of God's will.

Speaking of Ten Commandments, What about Exodus 20: 4, 5
Thou shall not make unto thee any graven image, or likeness of anything that is in Heaven above, ...
And Thou shall not bow down thyself to them or serve them:...
I seem to see a lot of these statues of Jesus, Mary and Saints, with people bowing to them in Catholic churches.
Jesus is in Heaven and Mary isn't mentioned very often in the Bible.

Exodus and Deuteronomy are also the same list in hebrew. The only change I notice was:

"You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife or his male servant or his female servant or his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor."
Ex 20:17

'You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, and you shall not desire your neighbor's house, his field or his male servant or his female servant, his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor.'
Dt 5:21

I checked in hebrew, the order it's also changed in there, which only make's it seems more like it's an single commandment. Since they changed the order in the same frase

Ex 20 and Dt 5 are the same, it doesn't matter trying to argument about bullet points, enumerations and such regarding this two chapters....

Non-catholics don't get the concept of "divine pedagogy". They can't grasp that, just like we do to schoolchildren, God deepens the moral teachings along the time. For instance, as people evoluted, the ten commands were summarized in basically two: 1) Love God above all and 2) Love your neiighbor as you love yourself, because if you love God and your neighbor you simply don't commit the other sins as a natural consequence.

But this concept, which seems so obvious to us now, was kind of too sophisticated to a people that were still struggling with thunders and lightings: it had to be pedagogically ( = slowly) constructed.

That's simply God's love mercy in action - just like we patiently teach our children.

Hi I just saw a video of the pope saying that they changed 2 4 and 10. I'm just learning but what I do know is that the bible has been tamper with by man and soooo much was taken out of it. Lots to think about and I have lots of research to do and hope that we are all drawn to the truth

1st century believers didn't change did. Look at the riches, robes, sacraments, etc etc...all tradition. How can you honestly defend the RCC?! Craziness.
