This is a good decision in order to hire a better coach and to provide the young players a better opportunity to shine.

Statement was Euro 2020 against Germany, quality win! Gotta give him credit for that massive win.

He has got no statement wins. Every time he’s faced a difficult opponent he’s lost. As a guy he’s probably really nice. As manager he isn’t a winner and should have left years ago.

Please can the English media stop crediting Southgate with improved results, no previous England coach has inherited such a deep pool of talent. To put it in perspective and context England at youth level for past 148 years only won 2 youth Euros in their history. In the last 6 years England have won at youth level 2 world cups and 4 youth Euros, not only unprecedented success in England’s 156 year history, this is unprecedented success in such a short time for any nation in the world, which proved England had world best talent in several age groups. England had more champions league winners under 30 in their squad, than any other team in the euros. People need to understand the talent Southgate was working with where his 7th and 8th choice central defenders play for Milan and Bayern. Where players like Grealish, Maddison, Sancho are not selected and they are not really missed and these players would walk into many other national teams.

The English media are missing the context by praising Southgate for better results. It is the foreign media who are being more accurate in their assessment of Southgate, where he is viewed as not only an utter failure, but also one of the worst coaches in international football. They feel it takes a special kind of bad coaching to take team with the most attacking options of any Squad and have them play slow, defensive low block football with them. It is a crime against football.

England need to do all they can to entice Jurgen Klopp to become manager! I think that would be awesome!

As an american Id actually take southgate for usmnt...foreign coaches/media assessment of him is not entirely accurate to say he played with a low block with so much talent and thus a failure...nonsense. what foreign media forgets is despite england always having hugely talented players they have been underachieving for nearly 50 years lol...gareth changed that and got them going deep in major tournaments...he wqs results oriented not performance. If he had a little more good luck he could have won the euros twice!..and to win first you have to make a final....europeans like to look down at england and english coaches while waxing lyrical over their own...i think gareth would be a good fit for usmnt actually

So England won at the end of the last day

Charlie is speaking facts I think managers like Gregg in the first term and Garth perform to expectations but they are unable to get more out of there team. The team can never do more than what its talent gives them. With that we criticize them when they underperform because there aren’t any incredible performances to balance it out.

The USNMT should hire him. He will do wonders for the team.

So im an american and dont follow the England team as closely as im sure our british brothers do. In terms of a statement win or lsck thereof one thing i think he did was improve my view of england in a penalty shootout. Growing up the perception was get England to a shootout and they will choke. Under Southgate ive seen the England win shootouts. Obviously they lost to Italy in Euro 2020 on pks but overall under him we did see England win shootouts which wasnt normal from the time i started to watching to before Southgate took over.

The US might not want Gareth Southgate as a manager, but he would do a great job sorting out US football in a role in bringing on the youth teams from the new base in Atlanta, both with boys, but also supporting girls teams to get the respect they deserve too.

it's break season, couldn't CBS at least bring the UCL guys as a proper pundits, not these random guys.

Luckiest coach ever. Got the weakest draw every time and lost to the first strong opponent every time.

The English should be happy with reaching the final. They played like rubbish throughout the tournament. They don't have a style and are boring to watch.

Ffs why isn't a real englishman here? Southgate has had easy runs and the level of competition is much worse than in 2002 and 2006. We ran into a prime brazilian team back then early in the quarter finals so it's ridiculous to compare southgate to former managers.
