I would have thought after the defeat to Italy in the last final, he would have gone. Like most I appreciate he tried his best and improved England very much. By the time I was old enough to enjoy football, we had such a bad team (and aging) and/or a truly incompetent manager, humiliated in 2010, grouped in 2014, knocked out by Iceland in 2016...if you told 10 year old me I'd get to see England knock out Germany, win on penalties multiple times, and see my country in two Euros finals, I would never believe it. So many memories I owe to this man. I lost my brother in 2021 and that Euros gave us so much joy and distraction in the worst year of my life so far. So thank you Southgate.
