Safegates is a good man and also needs and will realise how good he has been to the whole infrastructure from organising U19’s etc and linking media fans and players into full team England. Before Gareth we were a bit of a mess. However it can’t be ignored that bringing these very talented squads to England somehow he missed the creativity to win those championships. The truth is that if Gareth was the director of sport for the FA now it would save the infrastructure and then provide a top coach to give a coach / manager who can move on these fantastic players and be far more open and modern tactics on the pitch.
Gareth still need and recognised for his work over the last 8 years for where we are now.

Respect to Southgate. First manager in England's history to get the team to a Euro final, first to get the team to a final on foreign soil. Two time 2nd place finalists in the Euros isn't something to shit on, no other manager for England has achieved it. 4th in 2018 WC - highest they placed in almost 30 years. 3rd place in 2019 Nation's League, 6th place in 2022 WC. Fostered a team environment for the players, doing away with the club rivalry mindset previous teams had. Yeah, I didn't love his tactics, and would have made different choices, and I blame the FA in part for not giving him guidance and feedback on that. But he definitely made huge positive changes for the squad, and he deserves to be positively acknowledged for doing so. Honestly the man could shit a gold trophy and the negative "fans" would have criticised it.

In 2018 he had the opportunity to sub a poor Kane for Jamie Vardy, during the world cup, Vardy was the scourge of many defences.
He never made that substitution and Vardy ultimately retired from International football.
