Dear Subscriber,
Thank you for watching our channel. In this series of shorts, we've selected some key soundbites from Professor Robert Lustig's conversation with Neeku Mahdavian of Emery Pharma.
In the podcast hosted by Emery Pharma, Dr. Robert Lustig discusses the dangers of ultra-processed foods, arguing that they are not true food but toxins. He emphasizes that calories from different sources are not equivalent, explaining that the body's response to calories varies depending on the food's composition, such as fiber, protein, fats, and sugars. Lustig criticizes the focus on calorie counting, especially concerning sugary drinks, and explains how fructose, unlike glucose, is particularly harmful due to its metabolism in the liver, leading to fat production and mitochondrial dysfunction. He highlights the importance of whole foods and the negative impact of high fructose corn syrup and other sweeteners on health, particularly in causing obesity and other metabolic diseases. Lustig also stresses that while exercise is beneficial, it cannot fully counteract the negative effects of a poor diet rich in ultra-processed foods. The discussion concludes with a call to avoid ultra-processed foods and focus on a diet consisting of real, whole foods for better health and longevity.

Glycation, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, insulin resistance, membrane instability, inflammation, methylation and autophagy cannot be overcome by exercise alone and an ongoing bad diet.

I watched your videos on the biochemistry of sugar, alcohol metabolism long ago. You did the diet for diabetic kids for 2 weeks, and reversed their diabetes. I never forgot those videos.

Technically correct, but it’s a fact that being fit and exercising gives way more wiggle room with the diet. I can handle the occasional “bad choice” with little to no impact.

Gardening is a great way to exercise and eating healthy balanced meals, our bodies are capable of healing we just need to put our mind to it!

Exercise may only fix 4 of the 8, but it also provides you with a positive mental attitude and positive outlook on your health. That positive outlook and the fact that you are feeling better from exercising provide the stepping stone to explore all of your health aspects and work on the other 4. So in a way, I guess exercise can help you to eat right! That's a fact!

I need to research each of these 8: what do they mean? (I am not a scientist / nutritionist).

But in the meantime (while understanding that a proper diet is preminently important), i'm aiming to

i) start following the carnivore diet (specifically the lion diet);
and
ii) exercise (including to regain the flexibility i've lost by being too sedentary).

I'm confident that these two will help me regain my health (I'm morbidly obese, have leg circulation issues, am diabetic, have low energy, etc., etc).

Thx. & blessings!

Very interesting information. I’d argue it’s still better than just sitting on your couch.

As a wheelchair bound quadriplegic I have a hard time doing exercises of any sort that don't involve movement of the arms.

I see people at the walking track very overweight walking fast or trying to run and I think they will go to a fast-food place when they leave here or go home and pig out on junk food and can't figure out why they can't lose weight, it's not what you are doing IT'S what you are not doing.
