Why "Six Pack Ab Workouts" Are A Waste Of Time - In today's video I explain why the typical "10 minute ab workout" routines that you find plastered all over YouTube are ultimately a waste of time if your goal is to lose belly fat and achieve a defined set of six pack abs. It's not that ab TRAINING should be avoided - the problem is this misguided notion that the abs are some sort of "unique" muscle that should be trained in some special way and that you need to be dedicating your time to entire dedicated ab workouts. The abs are a muscle just like any other and so the same basic muscle building principles apply. There's no need to perform endless ab exercises with hundreds of reps at a time, since spot reducing fat isn't possible and the only goal of ab training is to hypertrophy the abdominals in order to make them stand out more visibly. That can be done with just a few basic ab exercises added into you regular training plan and you don't need an entire "six pack ab workout" performed multiple days a week or even every day. The problem though is that so many people are searching for the "best ab workout" or thinking that some gimmicky "flat stomach workout" is going to lean down their midsection in a matter of days, and that's why all these popular channels such as Chloe Ting, Athlean-X, Blogilates, Chris Heria, V-Shred and more are constantly uploading these ab routines to YouTube even though the videos themselves aren't that helpful for the intended goal. I just do a plank with abs, back, and glutes tensed. I do that 2-3x a day to failure. That's worked better than anything I've ever tried.

Abdominal strength = training
Abdominal definition = caloric deficit

Been doing a 7 minute ab workout for the last 6 months 4-6 times per week and my abs feel and look better than ever ( been training my abs for 20 years, I'm 35 atm) . I know that diet is key but those short and intense workouts help me growth my abs better than other type of workout

Since I started doing 7 minute abs every morning my lower back pain disappeared, I notice when I forget to do them for a while but keep lifting my back pain returns. They work, it helps me keep my core engaged and maintain good posture.

Back in high school I would train full body 5 times a week (2 rest days a week), my ab routine back then was only declined sit ups with a Russian twist at the top with a medicine ball. I would say that did do a better job of shredding my abs then when i tried a circuit.

I always used to skip abs. I started doing an ab routine (5-7 minutes) at the end of each workout and I noticed a massive difference.
However, what I think you’re getting at here, I agree with.
It’s a lot more than just an ab routine that’s going to get your midsection ripped!
Diet, and overall exercise to build muscle & burn fat is the only way you’ll get that shredded abdominal region.
Abs alone won’t cut it!

Nailed it once again! It seems many, if not most do not know about proper rest time between sets. Of course, it depends on the goal, but 2-3 mins, for building muscle, up to 4-5 for strength training is a good rule. Thanks for the informed instruction!
