When Calories Go Down, Weight Goes Up?

There are several different schools of thought behind obesity and metabolic dysfunction, for example, the energy balance model or “calories-in, calories-out” perspective that many people have felt fooled by. While calories certainly are one piece, there is much more to the puzzle of weight management and metabolic health, like hormonal cascades and oxidative stress.

How we eat impacts every aspect of our biology and we’re continuing to learn the multitude of mechanisms influencing our metabolic health and weight.

My recent rich conversation on The Doctor’s Farmacy with Dr. Robert Lustig is a helpful window into all this and more. We dive into the truth about calories, the importance of glucose and insulin monitoring, and much more.

I grew up outside, running around the yard playing, in the sunlight, cutting grass or doing yard work, gardens weeding etc. You hardly ever see anyone outside anymore, kids playing, people sitting on their porch, walking around the yard nothing. People stay inside in front of TV, or a video game.

I love when Dr. Hyman said “depends on how you define sugar“! That is exactly true!

The nuance is you may eat loads of calories on one day and then don’t eat the next because you are so satisfied from the day before.

Except people dont move as much as they use too...the calories can go down and gain weight if you dont exverise or move...

I don't think for a moment that the rate of eating sugar has gone down.

Cane sugar is too expensive. Cheap chemsugars populate most pseudo food boxes. Just don't do it.

How about people are just lying about how many calories they consume or they really aren't counting at all. It's a mathmatical equation of energy consumed and energy burned. Don't kid yourself.

The day i started counting my calories with a limit in mide and was more intentional about what i ate and when and picked up my steps and some ither excercise the scale almost right away within 2 weeks started trending down the little nutritional wars i hear on here i ansorb but take what i believe and leave ehat i dont as for sugar i have cut out all but my dark choc and a teaspioon of raw honey here and there besides fruit. Things are going well im really happy and not drinking coffee everyday for me was a game changer i was hardcore coffee fiend now its matcha unsweetened and ovcasional iced americano

Stress makes the hormone cortisol. Cortisol makes a person fat. Consider cell damage due to exposure to electronics, less exercise, crazy politics, less friends, less family reunions adding discontent and stress within our lives.

Sugar is a carb, and carbs are the problem along with certain chemicals that are put in processed food; I lowered my weight by getting rid of carbs, understanding nutrition and applying it my diet; health issues have gone away; people on carnivore diets, chich don't do also have the same results

It is strange that these great gentlemen know so much about the causality of consumption of things that make us sick but yet, they look sick themselves. Is it just the aging process? Is this what sacrifices look like? ❤❤❤❤

How about the fact that so many people are inert.
Looking at their phone or on a computer.

the reason obesity rates have gone up is the amount of fat especially saturated fats have gone up. Also not all calories are the same ...

Weight gain = (calorie intake - calorie burn) > 0

Sedentary lifestyles and bad diets cannot be defeated by cursory exercise.

This Dr Mark Hyman has aged so fast since he started this war against sugar, gluten, ultra processed foods, emulsifiers, corn starch, fructose, maltodextrin, emulsifiers etc.

I wonder how much stress has he been under fighting this war ....

Or is he sick ??

How much is his sacrifice costing him ???

Maybe because humans don't convert thermal energy into physical mass. That's the idea of the calorie.
