I appreciate the opportunity to reframe my original question of “Am I a bad manager” and instead ask “What am I already doing right?” I’ve been a department director for 3 years now and still can’t help but fall into the habit of accusing myself of being a terrible manager (and therefore a terrible person) when things aren’t going great. Thanks for the chance to reflect positively in the moment 😊

This makes me feel tons better after working for a company where no one does any of this and I was looked at like I was crazy for respecting my team and their personal lives. I was questioning myself all the time. I got push back daily from my peers and upper management for admitting my mistakes and informing my team of situations that directly affected their workload and schedule. Im so glad I decided to leave that toxic environment and I look forward to finding a place where servant leadership is the norm! No one could understand why I got such great results and double the production with less people. Its our job as leaders to make sure the people around us are successful. Treat them with respect and invest in their future! Simple yet effective.

I’m a new leader for my store and these are essential. I cannot explain how much respect you have from your fellow staff when you understand that they have a life outside of work. You can easily write people off, but the best thing is to not give up on your team. Your team matters and in order to keep them coming back for more is to make sure that you know that WE ALL have a life outside of where we make our money, but it’s your responsibility to maintain a healthy work life balance so that it won’t interfere in the work relationship we have

Dude you just said something that hit me. It's funny I jump in front of the bus for everyone! When ever the AM or DM try to give me props on something I give all credit to the TEAM. But I have noticed people are quick to point the finger or toss the blame at me???

Hey, I have a chance at being a manager of a crew the size 35-40 people. I'm young, but have reservations about the promotion. Other co-workers have also applied. Although I heard that the higher ups where really excited about me. I'm someone who also values time, i see these meetings pulling everyone away to just say a few people aren't doing this or that as completely useless. Why not address the problem directly? Or print out the problem and hand them out to everyone. Is this unreasonable? I'm not someone infatuated with the idea of being the boss. I'm just a hard worker and effective, I don't take breaks and I also don't talk alot about things that don't involve work. Is this a bad attitude to have? It's kinda just who I am. The pay is really good though. Could you give me some advice?

I used to send these videos to my new mgr who was learning how to be a mgr.
She never cared to look at them. She always said these useless words “thank you for sharing” Needless to say she resigned 3 weeks after I left. It made me wonder who was the manager.

Hey so I have a suspicion that my employees are misusing the bathroom. But I can't prove it. How do I handle that? Do I half to limit bathroom use like in elementary school? I'm at a loss. I'm not a baby sitter.

Why does a boss have more expectations and make you work more than the others?

What would you do if you feel all you can do is done at a job???

Why would they create a horrible job for you and no one else? And make you do it alone? Not demanding anyone have to do it?

Why are you constantly being accused of things more than anyone?
