In this video, Anthony Sequeira covers the use of client Hyper-V in a Windows 8.1 Enterprise environment. He demonstrates how you can use Hyper-V to run other operating systems in Windows such as Linux. He further describes how to install both Hyper-V and virtual machines, and what system requirements are necessary.

After watching this video, you will know what client Hyper-V is and how to install it on your system for the purpose of provisioning and running virtual operating systems. Provided within the context of Anthony’s comprehensive Windows 8.1 course, this video explains why you need more than just a copy of Windows Pro or Enterprise to run Hyper-V. He explains how you also need a processor capable of virtualization and plenty of system resources. He further shows you, step-by-step, how to set up and run Ubuntu in Hyper-V, and he explains how to provide this virtual machine network access. He additionally shows you how you can test this connectivity.

Thank you. The platform service would let me enable but was not enabled when checking the settings again. Turned out net framework 3.5 was enabled and v4 was not, this fixed it.

I got as far as it asking for install and virtual switch but like your video the main machine lost its connection. You vanished to enable it but did not say how, can you elaborate please so I may use same on board gb lan for both virtual and non virtual installation please?

I am trying to diagnose a very specific crash problem with a couple apps and need it to work on both simultaneously. Cheers Anthony, networking makes me into a sick puppy but your video only made me slightly uncomfy so I guess that's progress :)

For VM's on Hyper-V is there any recommendation or benefit for sticking with the classic RAM sizes (ie. 1024MB vs 1000MB or in this case 4096MB vs 4000MB)?

Will this work on old OS's like Windows 98, 95, NT, 2000, etc.? Will also work for betas like Whistler, NT 5.0, Chicago, or any of that? I'm just trying to get an idea.
