In this video, Anthony Sequeira covers updates and changes the Windows 8.1 update brought to the operating system's UI. Microsoft's April 2014 update to Windows 8.1 meant changes to the ways apps were displayed and how the desktop appeared — learn to navigate and customize the changes.

The update from Windows 8 to 8.1 is old news by now, but there are still devices using Windows 8.1, and even a small percentage still using Windows 8. The update brought quite a few changes across the board, but in this video Anthony only covers the UI changes in the update.

First of all, 8.1 Enterprise now automatically brings you to the desktop rather than the Start menu. On a tablet, it still brings you to the Start menu, but otherwise the default is desktop.

The Start menu itself has gotten a facelift, and a search option is now displayed prominently, as well as power options — which boasts a pleasantly fast sleep and wake-up functionality.

Tiles on the Start menu can now be moved, resized and spaced out with a right click. Four special settings tiles are now added for new installations as well. Apps themselves are better displayed, and customizing their tiles is quick and easy too.

Very informative, thanks. It's painful to see how Microsoft are improving Windows 8 a bit at a time by adding features which were standard to previous versions of Windows.

Windows 8 was a failure to mankind all the way to subatomic bang and singularity theory.
