Is it reasonable to compare these two planes if there is such a huge gap in price??

I was a pilot in the First World War, and we lot used to be very proud of our aircraft, finding excuses to rationalise our aircraft model assignments. My favorite was the Sopwith Spudfest, but its landing characteristics were awful. One thing I learned after transitioning into the Grumman Godsmack, Fairey Battleship and then through the Mitsubishi Arvonak to the Skyfalcon, was that nothing is nicer than a parachute. Therefore, although I like the look and heritage of the Cessna 172/182, I have to concede that the Jake Ae13A reconnaisance float plane is the better of the two, followed by the Fokker Wolf Slingshot Rabbit Hound. Why bother flying, when you have no lifeboat attached to the submarine?

My observation over many years is that too many Cirrus SR series pilots have accidents in the traffic pattern. Unlike the C182, the SR planes are "slippery, " meaning that some flight stability has been sacrificed to increase speed. At the low speeds of the traffic pattern the SR planes are more likely to stall at altitudes where recovery is impossible. If a pilot keeps the speed up in the pattern, then turns must be made with a higher bank, also inviting a stall. The C182 produces more lift and drag, making it slower but safer in the traffic pattern.

182 is better all round as well you can go to floats and skis.

Cirrus may be faster but I would take a 182 turbo hands down all day every day

Cirrus is the way to go. A little pricey but you get more power and about the same payload. The Cirrus is faster by about 40 kts

Not even a fair comparison, two different classes of aircraft with about a 70hp difference between the two and about 50 kts, id still take the 182 reguardless..

I think almost half of cirrus crashes are fatal and there is no data of the parachute beyond one rate of spin.

It's stupide to compare those 2 aircrafts, they are not for the same price and they are for different mission, it's like comparing a F-250 with a Cadillac CTC-V

A high wing ain't sexy but is far more practical. Rainy day? You're under the wing. Hot day? Open the large windows. Also remember the SR22's vertical velocity when crashing with the parachute deployed is still higher than the 182's stall speed.

Also, hand flying the SR22 sucks and is fatiguing. That side stick is attached to a stiff spring mechanism which isn't comfortable to push against.

I'll take a Diamond DA50 over both of them.

Focus, Doug, Focus. Ground loops are irrelevant for Nose draggers! And. Puhleeze eliminate the Repetitive, Intrusive, Repetitive, Intrusive, Autism-Inducing Pseudo-Music. It might make you be viewed as Obnoxious.
