One of our Ren Baron subscribers is contemplating trading in his Cessna 182 for a Cirrus SR22T and asked me for some advice. My advice...let's go for a flight and see if that helps you decide. Today we fly from KSMO to KSNA in some IMC conditions and put the Cirrus to the test. Come along for the ride.

Ren that was great!!! Very nice of you to take one of your subscribers up. I just started my IFR training so this was especially fun to watch. Nice side step to 20L to get out of the way of the big boys. Quick question... at 5:05 you reference syncing your heading bug while in a turn. Are you doing anything other than just clicking in the Heading button? I usually don't sync until after the turn is completed but looks like you have a better way.. As always man thanks for sharing. -Shane

Love the videos. This one was fun, since I've got probably 150 hours in a Cessna 182, all analog. Haven't flown for just over 40 years (sad story), never lost my love for aviation. Anytime, you want to drop into KCGZ (Casa Grande AZ) this "old" 182 pilot is up for it.

Well done Steve. One of the most confusing skill for pilots learning GPS is departing a VOR on a HDG. You showed them all how to do it gracefully and efficiently... Direct to the VOR set HDG, crossing the VOR press HDG.

Just look at the tons of “Continental engine” failures on Katherynsreport for Cirrus. Not so for the lycoming 540 in the 182, it doesn’t need a parachute. If I was going for 182 I’d head straight over to Peterson Performance plus for the Kenai, a 182 that cruises at 155 kts and is the safest slow flier for landing in those mountain cottage resorts.

And to the main question: C182 or SR22T?

Steve, love the content. One question, what filter do you use on your cameras to eliminate the prop?

Which is more reliable the Cessna or the Cirrus?

I bought a 2022 to update from my 2018 22T Xi. Full load. Same plane as yours. Lone Mountain will be listing it within 30 days in Las Vegas. Still under the 5 year warranty. If your friend is looking. Call Paul.

Nice. I share some attributes. I own a Cessna 182 and I got my instrument rating out of Van Nuys. I do look longingly at the SR22 though….
