Worst thing is that when you get into your 30s or 40s your friend circle shrinks because you realise they were drinking mates more than anything else. Sad but fact of life

Weed is getting a similar reputation now.

26YO in London . Stopped drinking after listening to the full pod on this topic 3 weeks ago . My life has drastically improved in every conceivable way . Fitness, socially, healthy habits, the places I go and the things I do.

I had 6 pretty close friends before I quit drinking. 4 I cut off immediately, because that's all they did. The other two slowly blew away in the wind. I think it was jealousy of how good I started doing. Within a year, I had a better job, better car, and a bunch of hobbies. I'd still invite them to do things. One I even went out to the bar with. The whole time I was there he kept pestering me to drink. It hurt pretty bad. He could clearly see I was better off without it, but didn't like that person.

Quitting alcohol was the best decision I ever made. Going on 2 years sober.
Glad to be rid of the sick people that came with it as well. They don’t wanna see you not drink because ‘sick people keep people sick’.

Early on when I started to consider sobriety from cannabis, there was one thing that made me get on board the fastest. I started to reflect on the fact that my friends and I used it as a social lubricant. This was a dark reality knowing we couldn't face each without getting high. A lot of changes came just from that one realization. It's tough to kick, but it's worth it. You might lose a friend along the way but you'll gain perspective and become more present about your inner world. You'll be better for you family and be able to show up in moments where the stakes are high, it's hard to know the small moments are high stakes when your getting high, no pun intended.
Wish you wellness and clarity along this journey.

I've been sober my whole life! Haven't smoked anything either! Proud of my upbringing, culture and parents ❤️ 💪🏻

People seem to take it very personally if you don’t drink, mainly because they’re threatened.

“You’re being boring”

“You don’t always have to be so strict”

“Chill out it’s the weekend”

If you choose to not drink you’re a visual cue for a lot of people that you’re doing what they can’t.

Yep… quit vaping, and when asked why I would get into MY reasons why. And all the people around me would do is just think I’m trying to better than them.. some were offended by this choice. And instead of being supportive and happy that I’m doing better for myself; they wanted to be a weight on my back, saying things like “you’d stop feeling sick if you just hit this” or “i know a way to make you feel better”. I’m 17 strong days into my journey and have realized some of the people in my life, don’t fit the lifestyle I want, and neither did that vape anymore

I now realize I need friends who will go out and run, go shoot ball, go out and NOT just drink or smoke to have the fun. It’s also the beginning of just being comfortable with myself, and not needing other to make me happy, or content. So maybe those “friends” really did help me in a way I didn’t see at first

So true! I gave up drinking 'for sport' again recently, and I feel so much better, so much clearer, and it's so much easier to love myself!

I dont drink, on a very rare occasion i will have one but i can live without it. I can go years without a drink. Friends say how can you not drink ? Its sad... i'm happy and confident enough and don't need it. Plus i love waking up fresh as a daisy ! When you've had a alcoholic boyfriend thats even more of a incentive ! I find i can fit in enviroments no problem.

So true! When I gave up alcohol some people gave up on me. But…. I ended up in a friendship circle I would never been invited into otherwise.

Hey Chris, your 1000 days sober video has really inspired me to give up booze for good. I'm going to substitute drinking with activities i've always wanted to pursue and other things that will drastically improve my life. I'm glad your ringing the bell on this issue because it has been so culturally engrained into our social lives it's become acceptable to destroy your health. There is no downside to quitting drinking and i'm glad you've shown the world it can be done.

24 years old and I’ve realised this. Better to just go it alone than self destruct to be around certain people

I listen to my body. If we are bar hopping, we wont drink much if there are games or deep conversations. Being judgmental doesn’t help you fix your issues. You just judge yourself as motivation to eventually judge others

I've always been a really slow drinker, without even noticing I would take 30 minutes up to 40 on the same beer, just having conversations and a good time. And people are always flaming me, "bro how are you still on the first drink" my new motto is sober is the new high, and that goes for you weed heads as well

As an alcoholic. This is B.S. The problem is ourselves, this is teaching how to shift the blame onto others
