With the PS5 becoming more readily available, PS4's have dropped a bunch in price. Which leads to the question....is it worth buying on in 2023?

I think the reason why the PS4 is still considered good in 2023, not due to how future proof the console itself was, but how little the current generation has done to provide new experiences in games, other than the higher resolution/ higher frame rate bumps.

It’s wild that we’re at the point when a piece of hardware can stay on the market for 10 years and still be viable.

I still use my PS4 often. It's a fantastic console

Also worth mentioning that, for anyone who is looking at PS4 vs PS5 (presumably not already owning either) you can pickup many older PS4 titles for literal dirt these days. I have somewhere around 100 PS4 games now, and I’d say fully half I paid $5-10ea.

I got ps4 3 months ago just so I can play all the games for dirt cheap prices 😅

Just bought a PS4 (refurbished). My last console was a PS2. I sure take my time when upgrading, but I am very excited to play the PS4!

I've had my PS4 Pro over 4 years now and still have a lot of games to play on it so it's definitely worth getting if you never had a PS4 / PS4 Pro

I'm perfectly happy with my SSD upgraded PS4 Pro. It's obviously no match for a PS5, but easily good enough for my gaming needs. The last game I played, Thief, (2014) felt pretty good on my Xbox One S, which of course is an even weaker machine, but apart from some noticeable loading times I don't really have much to complain about. Not all games will run smoothly or look amazing on the older consoles, but for the most part they'll do a respectable job, especially for casual gamers like myself.

The PS4 library is large and diverse. I’ve had my PS5 for two years now, but still regularly use my fat PS4. The only real difference I notice between the consoles is load times.

I have a PS4 Pro with a 4tb Samsung SSD. It’s not as fast a a newer gen console but I’m still enjoying it with all the games it has to offer and experiences. By far my favorite console to date and right after that is the Xbox 360 back in the day that was my favorite.

I got my new slim PS4 for Christmas 2021 and it’s excellent. I never thought I’d download a digital game, as I’m a retro gamer at heart. But now I do it all the time. I originally wanted it so I could play Sonic Mania and Streets Of Rage 4 and those were the first two games I got for it. Now I have a big library of digital games and most of them are retro titles. I love it!

When I got my PS5 at launch my PS4 went to my son (he only uses it for Fortnite). Once in a while I use the PS4 and I am surprised at how well it still runs after all these years. Yes it sounds like a jet engine and it is a bit slow to load (I added a SSD and it helps a lot) but it is still usable.

As someone who went from PS3 to Switch and nothing console related since. This video actually compels me to explore a PS4 option. Hard copy trade ins of PS4 games are now also super cheap at my local store.

I'm still on my PS4 slim, holding out for a PS5 slim. Still a very good console here in 2023 with my main complaint being the speed of the included hard drive. I just did a full re-initialization of my console the other day and saw that there was a new system update today. Amazing that so many new games are still coming out for it even if it is missing out on several AAA titles (as you might expect at this point).

I recently sold my switch oled & found my ps4 pro collecting dust in my closet. Decided to run a few games from PS plus and was pleasantly surprised by how good it’s still running and the new games added to the catalog

We’re in an interesting space in the console world. I bought a ps4 pro, slapped at 2tb SSD in to it and haven’t looked back. It’s everything I need & I didn’t have to pay hundreds of dollars and wait for weeks and months to get it. I’ll be gaming on it for years to come.

After 3 years of release hardly any good ps5 exclusive games out there unless you are desperate to play spiderman.

Developers want to make money, they will still release their game for the ps4 with a slight upgrade for the ps5

I just bought a ps5 but id be happy if i still had my ps4 pro which i sold 2 years ago.

If you have never owned one and get it for a good price, the PS4 in 2023/24 is totally worth it - replace the hard drive with an SSD and that will speed things up nicely enough.
When you consider many people are still using 1080p TVs - the PS4 suits those displays perfectly.
From the size of it's game library I'm certain there's a lot to be had from the PS4 in 2023 and 2024.

Still have my PS4 Slim Gold edition with the 1TB it came with and still play on it. I'm not missing anything as I think it's fine.
