The gaming industry is getting worse year after year, which is sad because i'm a passionate gamer and tech-guy.

Hard to beat a series s paired with game pass. Just picked one up at best buy for 239. Nintendo games are notorious for retaining their price years after they release.

To me its a very simple and straightforward answer to why this is happening cause the world is full of followers everyone just jumps on the bandwagon nobody stands up or asks questions they just follow and accept it

The extra storage cards for the Xbox is insane 300 dollars for extra storage is outrageous

Sorry Austin, but I can't really get behind the Switch Lite being the solution. I don't even think portable gaming is the solution; maybe in an area where you have to be more portable, but in my area where you don't have a lot of options where you can take advantage of portable gaming, at home gaming is where the focus needs to be.

I completely wrote myself out of this gaming generation. When i bought a PS4 last gen I thought that price was absurd. This generation of consoles and graphic cards are so, so far out of my price range it's ridiculous. Gaming is no longer easily accessible . I've been gaming since I got my first Atari 2600 in the mid 80s, but with prices the way they are now the only reason I'm lucky enough to be doing any current gen gaming is because I won a gaming pc with a 3060ti from Skytech gaming earlier this year.

If the switch had specs slightly lower than PS5 and Xbox I Don't think I'd own undifferent console or gaming PC. I'd be happy with the switch, especially if all games were available aside from the Nintendo exclusives

With regard to prices getting out of control and the idea of £700 consoles in the future, it's feasible.

Remember when people scoffed at the idea of a smartphone costing around £1000 selling to the masses? Then contracts came in to spread the cost.

Xbox All Access has already made use of that pricing model.

Just make sure to buy physical carts for the switch because... its not like they will make it backwards compatible for when the next system comes out in the future or give you the opportunity to download those games again should they choose to discontinue support for the game in the future.

Yes this is a cynical take, but Nintendo continues to be so anti-consumer with their decisions and support that I can't in good faith recommend them as a long term solution for gaming

Austin man this is a MASSIVE L. Stick drift, awful long term support, and a narrow field of games (unless you REALLY like Nintendo) make the switch lite a bad option. Also as a Series S owner the reason why it's gotten a price cut is cause gaming on it isn't great, devs don't want to be handicapped by it anymore so we will probably see series X exclusive games soon, and just nobody wants it. The retail store I work for got 300 in before black Friday. As of Christmas weekend we still have over 250.

I blame Nvidia for price gouging their products and forcing the rest of the industry to follow suit. Computer parts were never cheap, but they were never this bad. The problem is that things that seem bad at first become normalized over time. Only those who remember what the good old days were like can picture a perfect world where gaming isn’t nickel and dimming you every second of your life.

I love the boiling frog analogy, because it always omits the fact that Goltz removed the frog’s brain.

You'd have to buy all your games second hand for the switch-lite to make any fiscal sense. The top switch games don't go on sale often, and when they do it's for very little markdown. You'll make up the cost of any other console or PC just in the price of games. 2018 hit God of War is on sale for $35 on Steam, and $20 at best buy. Super Mario Odyssey, another great game from that year, is $79.99 at best buy.

One thing you didnt mention was the ridiculous prices of peripherals; theyre still just cables, plugs and plastic yet theyre 5x and more.

To me the size of the steamdeck is more of a perk than a curse, there is a reason why mobile phone gaming sucks (outside from the ridiculous amount of gachas and scams) it is not comfortable to hold and game on because it's way too small and the only way to make it comfortable is to attach a weird mount so you can clip it to your Xbox controller and that gives me alot of ocd with fear of it sending my phone flying haha.

150 quid more for the low end steam deck, worth saving a bit more for in my opinion.

This is a terrible take. The switch lite may be cheap, but games on it are way too expensive and rarely on sale. A much better deal is to buy the xbox series s with game pass. Fine, you spend 50 - 100 dollars more, but you get a huge library of games, while on the switch you get like what, 2 games?

The steam deck is my most favorite handheld device I've used. Gamecube/Wii emulation alone is just amazing, and was super easy to set it all up. Steam OS is easy to use, can sync my PC saves on supported cloud saving games and can customize it quite a lot with mods/plugins. The only downside I've had was with some missing options, like managing shader caches that eat up the base storage. Even though those uninstall with the game, you cannot see how much a game caches.

Ngl I bought a switch lite after selling my OG switch 2 years ago, totally worth it! Form factor is better, just wish it was a hair more powerful to avoid frame drops

Changing perspective thing has been happening everywhere. The phone is another example. The devices can do a lot more things from previous generations so part of the increase is understandable
