I personally think I get more of a psychological boost from taking a preworkout than the actual chemicals. Of course the caffiene pumps me up all night if I lift after noon, and the beta-alanine makes me all tingly.

yeah ive been drinking coffee every day since i was like 12. my body has an incredible tolerance to it at this point. so much so that the only reason i continue to drink it on a daily basis is to avoid the headaches that i get if i dont. so a cup of coffee before a workout doesnt really touch me. atleast not in any meaningful way. unlike my uncle.



so this is where the preworkout comes in. a dose thats 3-4 times higher most definitely touches me. but unlike my uncle i actually enjoy its effects and improves my performance.

An extra benefit to pre workout is it helps you to add an extra ritual that keeps you fit. You associate your pre workout with going to the gym. So it’s easier to go to the gym. You wake up in the morning and take pre workout and boom. You’ve placed in concrete the fact that your going to go lift.

Edit: just to clarify I have never and will never take pre workout. I go with espresso and a meal bar.

Glutamine might not be a power builder, but it helps the muscles to not eat theirselves for protein. And the best thing about Glutamine, is that the next day you won't feel as sore. I take Glutamine by itself after my workout. You can definitely tell the difference with and without Glutamine.

I took pre workout once and I was actually felling more tired and my heart rate was really high, I didn’t give me more energy lol

I think most preworkout mixes have a lot of extra chemicals in them that may add minor benefits but aren't really worth the price. I make my own preworkout mix with creatine, beta alanine, bcaas, and sometimes caffeine. Buying the ingredients separately gives me what I think is important in a preworkout mix at a lower cost
