I could easily go off on 20 or more different overrated supplements here, but these are just a few that immediately came to mind.⁣

Also, a few additional notes to keep in mind…

- If you have certain micronutrient deficiencies that are contributing to lower testosterone levels (vitamin D being the most obvious, or potentially zinc/magnesium) then supplementation could potentially assist in that area.⁣

However, as far as how most over the counter testosterone boosters are marketed and how most people *think* they work ("I take this... I make more testosterone... I build more muscle"), it's going to be a waste of money.⁣⁣

- There could be some minor use for amino acid blends in certain niche situations (vegans with a slightly lower protein intake for example, or for fasted training - though you're technically no longer "fasted" if you consume them and could just have some whey instead), but for the vast majority they're not going to be necessary if you just eat enough regular protein.⁣

- Weight gain powders could be used in moderation if you just wanted an easy/convenient way to get in some extra calories while on the go and have a hard time meeting your daily needs. However, a homemade option will be far superior both in terms of nutritional value and taste.⁣

You also don't need a huge calorie surplus to maximize gains in the first place, and sitting around pounding weight gain shakes all day trying to get huge is a great way to go overboard and just get fat instead. (I've been guilty of this in the past)⁣

Imagine Sean working at a supplement store, he would turn all customers away and make the shop go bankrupt.

I worked at a supplement store for 2 years and have been consuming supplements for even longer. 100% agree with this, I’ve always said test boosters and bcaas are a waste of money. Weight gainer supplements can help, but he’s right again, it’s better to use actual food, even if it’s blended into a shake. Still, if you can’t afford the time and effort to plan food shakes, weight gainer supps will help to increase calorie intake and provide protein simultaneously.

The only supplements I can say that truly make a noticeable difference are protein, creatine, and preworkout.

I just recently find out about your channel. By far the best I've seen on here. Having worked in the fitness industry for quite some time I know lots of people are looking for quick fixes. Searching for the trick of trade without even coming close to mastering the actual trade and thus falling for a lot of BS from people who want to profit from that. We need more people/channels doing exactly what you are doing.

Eaa are usually consumed when replacing a meal during a cutting phase

Most of these mass gainers have a photo of jacked bodybuilders on them when in reality consuming them will make you fat and not jacked due to the insane amount of sugar and maltodextrin in them.

The recommended dosage mentioned on the containers can easily go above 1000 calories, way more than necessary.

I use Ashwaganda mainly for the stress reduction. It also at least has a good placebo effect for me if it doesn't boost test enough

A lot of BCAA blends have a lot of ingredients directly focused on prolonging your workouts, improving cognitive function as well as providing a helping hand to recovery on days you’re not able to eat the best possible way you can. They may not be necessary but they sure have their place in the gym.

BCAA products were made for critically underweight patients in like the 60s who couldn’t digest proteins and had low muscle mass

I could see how the bcaa and other preworkout supplements could be useful for those who are trying to get gains but follow vegetarian and vegan diets where healthy protein can be hard to obtain. Especially considering protein options are more limited when one is on such a restricting diet.

I only eat once or twice a day. 100 grams of protein is NOT easy for me.

Sean - I've heard recently, that BCAA blends CAN be useful as a post workout/recovery option for those doing endurance events. As they are digested much quicker than food/powdered proteins. Helping to recover from say a 10mile training run or an hour swim session or a hard uphill bike ride. Meaning you don't have jelly arms/legs immediately afterwards.
Not used to maximize muscle gains as such from a weights workout, but more as an aide to reducing fatigue, and fatigue based injuries, i.e accidentally rolling your ankle walking because you did a long run earlier in the day and your legs are exhausted.

EAA’s I can see an argument for 2 reasons: some small literature suggests EAAs and carbs as an intra workout increase nutrient uptake and could lead to more hypertrophy. But the second more important one is for someone like myself who trains first thing in the morning instead of eating as I fell nauseated and this reduces my performance I take intra carbs and EAAs as I walk to the gym. (As personally I cannot digest whey very well)

Eating enough protein in a day can be tough. I swear I am eating like four meals a day just to hit 170 grams.

I remember first taking mass gainers to start getting me in a surplus, but afterwards didn’t really do much after that once I got used to eating my calories

I agree 80%. However.. during a fasted cut, bcaas are a great pre/intra- workout addition.

Overall I do value your opinion and advice. But people like to do things differently to the norm..

Can any of you speak to the effectiveness of BCAA's while fasting to avoid muscle loss but still keep the fasting true?

Hey wassup man I just want to say your videos have really helped me as far working out having proper muscle failure techniques etc. I have lost 30 pounds so far in the past 4 months I was 278 now I'm 248 and slowly seeing results little by little. Keep up the good work as it can help many people especially those who are beginners and just getting back into working out.
