We just moved from Asheville 2 weeks ago. Glad we did. My in-laws are still there. It was extremely expensive to live there before this. Now it's about to get bad

My heart goes out to Asheville. NC is my home no one expects this sort of thing to happen. I have lived here my whole life and never have I seen something like this. We a sliding down a slippery slope with how powerful people’s actions have affected our planet. This is only the beginning.

This is horrifying because I’m in Aiken SC, and all that happened to me was my lights were flickering throughout the night but at 6:17am the power went out. I prayed & by 6:45am my power was back on. I have no trees or high cable lines in my neighborhood so there wasn’t debris nor damages. It was until I drove out of my neighborhood that I realized it was pretty bad. I had no idea how bad it was till I seen the news about the surrounding areas of SC & NC!! I just rode it like a casual storm because I was told it was just a category 1 by the time it came to SC. And since I had no damages, lights, & water I thought it was just that but turns out it wasn’t!!

My aunt, cousin and her son live there. I have been so worried. I turned on the news yesterday and saw how bad it was. I texted my aunt immediately but I haven’t heard from her. Roads are closed, no power, and she can’t get to a hotel. We all have been worried. I’m sending my thoughts and prayers to everyone affected by this hurricane.

Ummm this is it? People are trapped, cell service is gone, roads blocked. Why isn’t the government transporting these people elsewhere? People will begin to panic. No food, no supplies.

Asheville resident here. The army corps of engineers is here to help our roads and such. They were blown away that we had little to no protections relying on a hurricane proof sentiment to our tourists and locals. They said they need to dredge the Swannanoa river 20 feet down and we need to build a wall where you saw this lady here tall enough so that if and when it floods again, the dredge will give us another twenty feet before it crests a wall. Many of our communities and townships have been wiped off the earth because lake view or river front was built into our way of life. Looking back on it, that makes perfect sense. How ignorant. It's awful here. Help is slowly but surely arriving and already here. So many volunteers cutting trees and transporting supplies or water. Civilians have astounded us with grace. Task forces, police, ems, rescue, and operators from all over the states and Canada are here helping with rescues and support. Heavy national Guard presence. Cell signal is spotty but better by day. This is the first day after Thursday that I've had solid service for more than 30 minutes. Power still off for hundreds of thousand. Myself included. 6 days now. Water isn't expected for 3-6 weeks. Without the army engineers and companies in neighboring towns or states, we could never rebuild our home. Many are affected by this hurricane. Asheville was just decimated. It's very surreal to be on this side of a natural disaster. Not just the video watcher this time. It's like a movie how awful it is but it's like a movie in how heartwarming it is to see everyone's comments. Thank you so much. From all of us. We need all the help we can get. As flood waters lower and leave, we are finding more devastation and death beneath the muddy water. Love you all. Thank you.
