Flooding at elevation with swiftly moving water is a completely different animal from coastal flooding. I’ve experienced both. Mountain flooding is particularly treacherous.

From someone that lived this same scenario with Katrina this will take years to rebound from.

I drove Hwy 81 from Roanoke, Virginia to Knoxville on Saturday morning. It was foggy & drizzly. Looking back, I should have left Wednesday before the hurricane hit the coast. It rained all the way across Tennessee. Trees were down, many gas stations & convenient stores were closed due to no electricity. I just realized today, driving 81 was right above where all the flooding was happening at the Tennessee North Carolina border. .

They need helicopter support. I'm no genius so I have to assume and hope that's already being done/arranged. People who need food water and rescue can't wait for roads to be passable... Just.... helicopters. Please n thank you.

I fear the death toll is low based on how bad the area was hit. Little time to prepare for a flash flood

Please continue to make sure drinking water and food get to Fairview and Black Mountain and surrounding areas. Any help is incredibly appreciated. Service is spotty and messages are sporadically getting through to people who are stranded.

I am waiting with bated breath to hear people were rescued, or food and water was delivered to survivors, just something please !!! All I've seen is destroyed building, and one precious lady called into a radio station that was live in YouTube, saying she is trapped with 12 families, and she got the cellphone to work by going to the top of a hill or mountain and standing on a big tree stump. Her name is Kathleen George (Black Mtn area, Broad River Fire Dept). A little boy was having seizures !!!

My brother lives in Leicester, about 7 miles northwest of downtown and he lost some trees in the front yard and the power was out, but it's back on now. The water is shut down, but the road in front of his subdivision is completely blocked with debris and landslides.

Asheville/Black Mountain/Swannanoa are some of our favorite places to visit. Such a beautiful place. I recognize several of the places in these vids. This will take awhile to rebuild.
