Top 3 Exercises for a Bulging Disc and Sciatica

If you think your low back pain and sciatica are caused by a bulging disc, these exercises are just for you!

These exercises also work well for "herniated discs" and can help heal a bulging or herniated disc.

Make sure you start the exercises slowly and gradually. They shouldn't cause pain while you're doing them, and over time your sciatic pain should start to improve.

If you're having sciatica pain all the way down the back of your leg, a good early sign of progress will be when the pain isn't traveling as far down the leg.

I’ve had sciatic pain 24/7 for about 4 years now and I’m only 23 years old. I finally got an MRI recently and turns out I have a bulging disc and mild scoliosis. My biggest problem is that I work a desk job, so I exacerbate the problem throughout the day, and the few hours I have to myself after work are not enough to alleviate my pain. If anyone else is going through this just know you are not alone.

I’m glad I saw this. I went through a few weeks of therapy where they showed me how to do exercises for my sciatic and bulged disc but they didn’t show me any of this everything I did was on my back we’re standing and I have continued that therapy for several months now And been doing very good at building up my car and learning how to exercise in modified ways but do I try to get in everything I can it doesn’t cause the pain or injury everything I’ve done has been on my back or standing. I do the stretches leaning backwards standing up but not the laying down, So I’ll definitely be adding this to my routine. It’s safe to do this like the other Exercises according to my doctor every day and as much as I want as long as it’s not causing pain?

Hi Mr.Gordon,
I had recently taken MRI which shows a Disc Bulge, which is more on right side than left. Is there anything specific for that or I should be doing this for pain relief as I find difficult to sit or stand more than an hr.I also have tingling effect on my right leg. Kindly advice.

I've been diagnosed with a bulging disc and start PT this week. I am so nervous my back pain wont heal, as it's very painful. I'm unsure what caused the bulging disc as I am only 24 and have no memory of injuring myself. Is this something sitting at a desk can cause? I love the relief these exercises bring.

I love your videos. They are very concise however the audio is not very clear. I usually have to turn the caption on to read what you are saying.

If I may add to this.... If it is possible, get the radiologist, or practitioner who is viewing your film, to identify exactly which way your disc is budging. This can help the PT or other corrective exercise practitioner to assign proper exercises. For those who have broad-based bulges (meaning the disc might be bulging in multiple directions, like the marshmallow in s'mores), these exercises might elicit more pain, as the flexion or extension might actually cause impingement.

Thanks. Are these exercises beneficial for:
Posterior bulging disc?
Ot
Anterior bulging disc?

As the direction of bulging is different in these two cases, the exercises have to be different as well.Thanls in advance, for your reply.
