WW2 US PARATROOPER HELMET COLLECTION

One of our favourite displays at the Airborne Museum in Sainte-Mère-Église is this collection of WW2 paratrooper helmet outer shells.

Although quite well weathered, you can still see the remains of markings on the side - a full set of suits from a deck of cards.
These markings identify them as being from 101st Airborne Division units - the Screaming Eagles.

The white ace of diamonds corresponds to the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, the ace of hearts to the 502nd PIR, the ace of spades to the 506th PIR and the ace of clubs to the 327th Glider Infantry Regiment.

The @airbornemuseum_sme is one of our must-visit places on any trip to Normandy as it tells the incredible stories of heroism of the men who dropped from the sky on D-Day, but also the people of the town and their sacrifices too. It’s built on the site where all the action happened!

The museum is undergone a huge expansion project in the past couple of years so if you haven’t been recently then it’s time to go back.
