Crazy to know that out of the 8, 000 Paratroopers dropped in Battle Of Arnhem only 120 escaped from getting captured and killed. They even managed to avoid capture for well over a month.

I was watching this and I was thinking, "Oh, is this Sean Connery's unit from A Bridge too Far?"

I like that focus on the polish paratrooper, respect to them, since the arrogant monty used them as a scapegoat for his failure of market garden.

1:21 1:44 Brigadier Gerald Lathbury, 1st Parachute Brigade CO and 1st Airborne Division 2nd in command. In BoB he's only credited as "Red Beret Brigadier". Hence Moose Heyliger addressed him as "Sir".

On day 2 he was shot and was paralyzed waist down. He had to be sent to St Elizabeth Hospital in Arnhem, later overrun by the Germans. With help from the Dutch Resistance he simply walked out of the hospital and escaped.

I heard that Tom Hanks made a cameo in the barn scene but I could never find him. Is that a thing?

When you take into account that the 1st Airborne Division lost 8, 000 men at Arnhem, the commander's statement, "and, here we all are." hits a bit different.

At 1:46 you can see Tom Hanks make an appearance. He's one of the soldiers kind of towards the top left hand corner.

What does the British Colonel shout? I'm guessing it's a saying from Africa that they used.

I never noticed that the guys pulling the boats onto the shore were the actual canadian engineers he mentions. You can tell by the helmets they wear.

A great series, but what gets me is, the 101st were around Eindhoven, and the 82nd were in Nijmegen. So, with that, it was probably the 82nd that secured the rescue and not the 101st. I would believe that this is directors embellishment and not factually correct, although I could be wrong. Still a great series.
