As they used to say at Fr. Benning, "It's a three week course. The first week you separate the men from the boys, the second you separate the men from the fools, and in the third week, the fools jump."

Jesus this was such a fantastic show. Every re-watch is heartrending and triumphant. You bond with these guys all over again, and it never gets old.

Am I the only one who wishes the cast did a full version of this song once the show wrapped? Would have been epic!

I like how Speirs had to look back at the lighter three more times before giving back.

The most accurate lyric in that song (not heard here) is, "He had to sit and listen to those awful engines roar."

My Foster dad was 101st Airborne. I'll never forget his Screaming Eagles hat with his wings pin on it.

He used to play this song for me when I first moved into his home when I was 7.

He used to give me military buzz cuts on the front porch for picture day at school while wearing his army pants and a white t-shirt and he'd come pick me up in his oldie's cars after school.

He didnt talk much. Leather jacket, leather gloves, dark tinted reading/sunglasses and a cigarette. He always stared at the distance with a cigarette in hand and I always used to sit down and watch him.

We never talked too much. I respected that man and still do to this day. He wasn't my biological dad, but he is certainly the coolest and best dad I ever had. He worked tirelessly and never complained.

He bought me a Screaming Eagles hat when I asked for one.

Not a day went by since I was 7 that I didn't see that Screaming Eagle.

I was in high school when Band of Brothers was popular.

My freshman year, my choir was doing Battle Hymn of the Republic for our spring concert. A few days before April Fool's Day, a whole bunch of us got together and decided to pull a prank on our teacher. We decided to change out the chorus of BHotR for that of Blood on the Rises. We told our other friends in choir and when April Fool's rolled around, everyone was not only in on it, we were excited about it. We even decided to switch the last stanzas.

The look on our teacher's face when we screamed "Gory! Gory! What a helluva way to die!" was classic.

I love the way Nix looks almost annoyed and disgusted with all the singing

"Is everybody happy?" cried the Sergeant, looking up.
Our hero feebly answered "yes, " and then they stood him up.
He leaped right out into the blast, his static line unhooked.
He ain′t gonna jump no more.

Gory, Gory, what a hell of a way to die
Gory, Gory, what a hell of a way to die
Gory, Gory, what a hell of a way to die
He ain't gonna jump no more.

The risers wrapped around his neck, connectors cracked his dome;
The lines were snarled and tied in knots, around his skinny bones;
The canopy became his shroud, he hurtled to the ground.

He ain′t gonna jump no more.

Gory, Gory, What a hell of a way to die
Gory, Gory, What a hell of a way to die
Gory, Gory, What a hell of a way to die

He ain't gonna jump no more.

He hit the ground, the sound was splat, his blood went spurting high;
His comrades were then heard to say, "A hell of way to die";
He lay there rolling ′round in the welter of his gore.
He ain′t gonna jump no more.

Gory, Gory, What a hell of a way to die
Gory, Gory, What a hell of a way to die
Gory, Gory, What a hell of a way to die
He ain't gonna jump no more.

I love how Speirs almost doesn’t give the lighter back, what a character

My father was in the British 1st Airborne Division 1942-45 (North Africa, Italy, Arnhem, Norway) then 6th Airborne 1945-47 (Palestine). He taught me and my brothers this song. We particularly loved belting out the line, "he landed on the runway like a pound of strawberry jam". My mother didn't really approve.

I read a book called 'blood on the risers' - A Vietnam para then a LRRP and his three tours. Probably one of the best books I've ever read.

I wonder if they really sang in harmony like that in real life. It sounds so awesome.

Glory, glory, what a hell of a way to die

Glory, glory, what a hell of a way to die
He ain't gonna jump no more

He hit the ground, the sound was "SPLAT", his blood went spurting high
His comrades, they were heard to say "A hell of a way to die!"
He lay there, rolling 'round in the welter of his gore
And he ain't gonna jump no more
