I’ve never seen a single episode of “Friends” so Sobel can’t be ruined for me. Great actor. Perfect cast for Sobel

Sobel is a tragic figure. He was obviously not a combat leader, but the men of Easy later admitted he was one of the reasons many of them survived the war. Sobel's life after the war was difficult, his wife divorced him and he tried to commit suicide. From what I've read he was a good father and provider for his family. His son was upset about the way the mini series portrayed his Dad.

Random historical factoid: Richard Winters was very adept and diligent at studying whatever material was provided to him, so much that during Officer Candidate School (OCS), he actually informed an instructor they were giving a lecture on the wrong weapon. The instructor was presenting one type of rifle to the class while giving a lecture about another that appeared similar. Winters didn't intend to humiliate the instructor, but he also thought it would be bad if they were all trying to use features mentioned in class that were not available on the weapon being presented.

I love how he said “let’s just get them” as if he was pleading for approval. He played the role so perfectly.

You cut off the best part of this scene!! Sobel, when picking three of his men to leave behind, points to his machine gun crew with his pistol and says "you, you, you". Shows how little he regards his men, both personally and tactically.

I love how Sobel is just marching along in front with just his pistol like its fking WW1.

"I'll not follow that man into combat" - said Guarnere and he's right.

In this scene, a seed is planted, which blossomed fully when just before war's end (still-)Captain Sobel tried to sneak past Winters without saluting his superior officer (as by then Winters had been promoted two grades, to Major), and Winters says "Captain Sobel, we salute the rank, not the man"

I recall reading that Captain Sobel couldn’t read a map which absolutely surprises me because land navigation and map reading is one of the most important things you learn in the military.

the one where Ross gets his whole company wasted
...
btw at 1:10 LT Winters is the only one who ducks when entering the ambush

I loved Band of Brothers. One of the best miniseries I’ve ever watched. David Schwimmer did an excellent job making Sobel so easy to hate. The true story of Sobel is quite sad. He suffered his whole life after the war.

Failures in training can be just as important as

30+ years in the Army showed me the value of both...👍👍👍

Interestingly I think if Sobel hadn't lost command of Easy Company, he would have been on that plane of officers that went down. So as much as it hurt it actually saved his life

The scene here is totally accurate to the book's description of Sobel. Sobel would "rabbit". Meaning he could never stay still, stay calm and be patient. His nervousness and self-doubt would always cause him to act irrationally and thus bad decisions.

He was also hopeless at reading a map, which is a critical skill for a company commander.
