These depreciated hot hatchbacks are so good that some people label them hyper hatchbacks, as they can in many cases take on supercars in terms of out and out performance. They are actually insane!

I hope you enjoy!

I currently own an AMG A45S and a Mitsubishi Evo. So a bit of new and a bit of old.

Issues that we have had with the A45S have been sagging seats and a knocking rear diff. Mercedes were very good and exchanged the seats and we have just had new diff oil put in by them that seems to have sorted the rear knocking. Oh and i have just discovered that the engine cover has been rubbing on the underneath of the bonnet, resulting it it wearing through paint and part way through the metal!
As for what the car has lost. Brand new we paid £51k for our top spec version and we have been offered more than that only a couple of weeks back. So 2 years free motoring if we were to sell up now.

The Evo on the other hand, that is the car that really turns heads when we go out, people just love it, even more than the Merc!

The Escort RS Turbo was my car of choice back in the day, owned 4 of them, both Series 1 and Series 2 models, one with a ZVH conversion, which for the time made it a very quick car, especially when it came to going through gearboxes lol

For me the ultimate is a Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9.

Series 1 RS Turbo Escort was the thing to have when i was a youngster, then then the Astra GTE 16v turned up.

I worked in the car industry in the 80s and the 205 was a complete game changer. Had to be the best ever.

Lancia Delta Evo back in the 90, with 200+HP is the best Hyperhatchback!

I've had many hot hatches and I've always been forced to modify them normally for handling purposes but when I finally got my dream hot hatch I didn't need to do anything to the handling as it was the top of tops at the time it was released I just added more power as the chassis is well over engineered for 215bhp, the car i speak of is a mk1 focus rs

Thanks JB, another great vid. In my eyes it would have to be a Tolbot Lotus Sunbeam (the original hot hatch) & then for sheer insanity the MG Metro 6R4, totally bonkers but still a hatch. All the best & hope your lovely cat is doing ok in this heat.

I was always a fan of the MK1 focus RS. That was the hatch in its day. And the opposition of the Mk5 GTI and EP3 type R were still great cars

Can we get an update on the best first car for 17 year olds?

Not one of these cars is heavily depreciated…..in fact they have all held their money amazingly well. In fact the winner usually trades for more than new price.

Thanks JB. For me the greatest hot hatch is the BMW 140. Rear wheel drive and a superb 3.0 ltr straight six engine. They can be picked up for around £17k, what a bargain.

The Renault 5 gtt is the best hot hatch of all time. I had one in 2002 and regretted selling it ever since I sold it in 2008.

Focus ST should be on the list, built right they can be absolute monsters.

Alternatives and through the ages: Vauxhall Nova SRi, Citroen Saxo VTS, Vauxhall Corsa SRi, BMW M2 Comp, Ford Fiesta ST, Ford Focus RS, VW Golf GTi, VW Golf R, BMW 140i. The Vauxhalls & Citroen used to be heavily modified & cheap, hence their inclusion!
