Hot hatchbacks don't have to be petrol powered, they can be diesel too, and offer some great fuel economy! Cheap, fast, and plenty of torque, all for less than £10,000! They may not get the same love and attention that their petrol equivalents do, but hopefully this video satisfies you diesel-heads out there.

I hope you enjoy!

I have a 2007 skoda fabia 1.9 tdi vrs. All stock except the turbo and then a remap. It puts out 200hp and 450nm of torgue. I friking love it it’s the most fun thing I have driven. So fun to troll others

I had a 125d as my last car, its was great! Fuel ecomong was always about 45mpg seemingly no matter how I drove it. Definately more suited to cruising like you say as handling with msport suspension was extremely bouncy.

Your work rate is immense. I never leave comments and this is my first one but mate, ive been watching your videos for a while now, and the quality of content deserves a lot more subscriber count and views. I have no doubt you will get there eventually! Mate great videos and when I have managed to save a specific amount of money, your videos will be the absolute reference point as to my car choice. Brilliant work, keep the videos coming!

The MK3 Octavia VRS is a very good contender in this price list. Same platform as the Golf and Leon with the same engine but a 500 litre boot and a very nice interior personally. Had one of these and it was spot on as a great family hatchback.

I have a standard seat Leon with the 150bhp 2l diesel and in a straight line it will pull away from a focus ST (diesel) so definitely worth looking at. I also can get around 68 mpg sitting at 70

Honourable mention - Alfa Giulietta the 2.0 litre diesel is a weapon, from personal experience with the car they are seriously quick with great put down power and a single stage 1 remap can make it better than a cloverleaf in my opinion. They come with some insane features including electronic LSD - great vid JB

Mini Cooper SD is the best diesel hatchback, we drive and tune a lot of the cars from this list. It's a lot smaller though.

I looked at most of these when I was looking for something quick but needed a diesel due to my commute
308 gt. Really liked it except for gearbox which was dim witted, slow to react and ruined the fun of driving it. Shame as I liked it otherwise.
Focus ST. Dated dash and not a place I enjoyed sitting in.
Golf gtd. Nice car but Golf's are so common I didn't want the same car as every other person on the road.
BMW 1 series. Didn't consider it as a 2007 3 series I owned was the least reliable car I've ever had. I wouldn't touch another BMW in a million years.
Seat leon fr. Great car and was the car I bought. Best looking in my opinion and felt good to drive. Felt quicker than 185bhp somehow and its handling was great. Reliable over 3 years of ownership only the fuel flap not working which is a common fault but was cheap and easy to fix. I got high 40's to the gallon on average and I drove it enthusiastically the majority of the time so was happy with that. It could get in the low to mid 50's on a decent run if driven more sedately. In fact it was so good I traded it for Leon Cupra 290 when it was time for a change and my yearly mileage dropped. I also love that car.

Do a video of appreciating hot hatches from the 00s to 21st century (2000-2012) or even salons from 005 till 2012
