My Aunt Lolly lives in Asheville. Most of the people there are in fact not billionaires. My heart is breaking for them. Those Main Street shops…they’ve lost everything.💔

It's like a dream and doesn't seem possible that this much water can be over such large areas.

Devastating. All things just swept away, life is that frickle. Prayers for all the people still stuck where no one can reach them. How does one even start to clean up.

I visited the area a year ago for a few days. Even considered moving there till I walked the streets of downtown Asheville. I was upset with the number of bums I saw throughout the city. Some passed out on the sidewalk in the middle of the day, with one passed out woman naked from the waist up for everyone to see. Don't take your kids downtown. There were bums at every streetlight. They probably lived in the ditches, and I fear those are the ones that died in the torrent of water coming in the city. It was sad to see such a nice city become a mini-San Francisco. I hope the bums found high ground.

Don’t rely on just the government because FEMA only gives 37, 500 towards the house and 37 500 towards other needs and that’s it!!! If you don’t have flood insurance, you’re out of luck

The greenhouse effect is heat trapped in the atmosphere. This is literally kinetic energy to drive extreme weather, from droughts to floods to hurricanes and tornadoes to forest fires.

I can imagine George and Edith Vanderbilt are heartbroken for the devestation of Biltmore Village. From what I understand, they believed it was their duty and responsibility to provide the infrastructure (church, shops, etc.) necessary to support those that supported the estate. I do hope that Bill Cecil Jr. and Dini Pickering will do everything they can, including chipping in required funds (as George and Edith did) to rebuild Biltmore Village.

So awful. So many beautiful places are destroyed. Prayers for the Southeast.

I always thought that the worst would've been in the Big Bend of Florida. Even if it was true, Asheville's floods were historic, and I had a close dodge by living in the Piedmont Triad.
