Worst MMO Ever? - Tera

Oh Tera, how the mighty have fallen.

Tera, or The Exiled Realm of Arboren, is an eastern MMO with a fantastic combat system and an excessive cosmetic shop.

It is the absolute epitome of style over substance, a flashy eye catching action game with no real lore or story or reason to exist beyond 'go kill big stuff'.

Killing the big stuff is incredibly fun though.

Thanks as usual to the Patrein supporters and Twitch subs who keep the channel going :)

When the game first came out it had some lore about how the two continents are actually two giant gods dreaming and forming the whole world. I always justified the stupid outfits as being the gods just having a perpetual wet dream because of that.

I just remember trying this game with a friend, and he made the biggest character model possible and I made the smallest. If I walked up to a standard bed my character would need a step stool to climb up, and I was literally about ankle height on my friend's character. That was my favorite thing about the game, the two of us adventuring together and me looking like his infant child lmao.

Only played TERA for like <20 hours, but the one moment that stuck out to me was when I was waiting for my friends at a dungeon entrance. I was just idling as I watched my character dance and some random walked up to me, initiated a trade and gave me a qipao (chinese dress) and said I was cute, then walked away. I realised the power of e-girls at that moment.

As a main healer/support on most mmo games Ive played, I to this day still think Tera's mechanics for healers was one of the most satisfying out there. RIP

Tera is a weird one. I've given it a shot like.. 5-6 times already, but for some reason it never stuck. The combat and graphics are absolutely great though.

This and the Neverwinter one have embodied a change in the tone of this entire series. What started as laughing at baffling games has turned into a stroll through a damn graveyard.

16:35 He also plays general Tullius in Skyrim, Doc Mitchel in Fallout New Vegas and Captain Bailey in Mass Effect. What a Legend.

It's heartbreaking to think of the artists who created this world having to see it killed like this

I actually paid attention to the plot and lore once. The story was hella generic. Lore was actually interesting with the different factions, cultures, deities and so on. But they never did much with it.

The combat was really so good. To this day I still tell people about how good combat and tanking especially was. Manually blocking with right click being able to time block any attack and being pushed back as you hold your shield and a giant monster charges you. Amazing combat indeed.

Come back to watch this again, still saddens me deeply. Tera was such a unique MMO, it scratches every part of my mmo itch. It was the game that I constantly went back to. And it's gone forever with nothing to replace it.

Played this when guilds could actually hold zones/territories through popular vote, control taxes, even hold player-funded events (Even my guild, Itty Bitty Kitty Committee ran the beginner zone multiple times). It was crazy player-driven and entirely enjoyable.

TERA's story is like a story of many other mmos that appeard on "Worst MMO Ever" series - it's ruined by rash,
ill-considered greed.

Honestly, I loved Tera purely because of the fights against BAMs. I loved soloing BAMs as a lancer, warrior tank stance or even slayer. Dungeons felt awesome, combat felt super responsive and impactful. The BAMs had awesome design, and learning each of their patterns, when to block and when to attack as a tank was just superb.
It's really a shame that Tera died. No other game even to this day managed to top or even come close to its incredible combat.

I used to play TERA a lot, and one of the most charming things about it that I always remember is the janky, inconsistent, often poorly-recorded voice acting that plays every single time you talk to an NPC. They have some really strange and memorable lines that they read in strange and memorable ways.

Edit: Man, I had no idea they boosted the EXP from the main story so much. Back when I played it took months to get to endgame and going through all the areas with friends was really enjoyable.

Tera isnt even a ghost of its former self at this point. I used to play it a lot not long after it went F2P and loved it. It used to have a really good crafting and gathering system until they just decided to remove 95% of it for no reason whatsoever. When they did that i knew Tera was gonna be in a downward spiral and seeing what its become now im glad i dropped it when i did. What they did to that poor game is an absolute atrocity.

Re-watching after the announcement TERA is closing since I chose to believe this video solely caused it and you can't change my mind.

Got 500 hours of this on steam. I really miss it. One day I was feeling really really low and I sat somewhere in a town just to people watch while I introspected and someone came up and sat with me to chat about stuff and encourage me to keep going in life. Never had a moment like this in any other MMO

The combat was truly amazing. I remember playing the "gunner" class and encountering two other gunners (of a similar level) on the trail leading back to town. We all stopped dead in our tracks and stared each other down for a tense few seconds before I summoned my mount to make a quick getaway. However, they immediately knocked me off my mount with a well-aimed shot. I was fighting them for a solid 20 minutes, trading blows with them, back and forth. Eventually, I was able to beat both of them because of the excellent action-combat system. I simply outplayed them, despite their numerical advantage. Stats be damned
