The first one is kind of wholesome and kind of disappointing. Like, he lived into his 90’s, but he didn’t get to see anyone come to commemorate him

The older you get, the smaller your funeral gets. My cousin died young (about 18) and basically his entire school came to the funeral it over crowded the place actually.
Recently his twin also died and he was about 32, there was still lots of people at his funeral but it was just friends and family

No one came because he outlived them all, not because they wouldn't have been there

I kind of love the idea of an author taking random strangers as inspiration for side-characters. Sure you may be killed in an unpleasant way, but at the same time you are immortalised in text.

It also makes you wonder if the authors of previous decades and centuries did the same sort of thing. Did Shakespeare sit scribbling in a tavern, and base Fallstaff on a drunken yokel? Was Coman Doyle at a coffee-shop when he saw a bumbling policeman, taking tea when he should be catching crooks, and discover Lestrade? Did Douglas Adams see a smug prick through the haze on a dingy 80s pub, and invent Zaphod Beeblebrox?

I prefer to think of it as instead of everyone he knew mourning his loss he got everyone he knew preparing a welcome a party.

The theft of names and essences in a coffee shop sounds fun.

Everyone’s bummed out by the first one and I don’t get why. It doesn’t matter how famous you get, none of your thousands, millions or ‘billions’ of fans are really gonna know who you really are in the first place. I don’t need the world to know my name, the only people I need to be remembered by are the few who have truly made a positive impact on my life

Brother's dad doesn't insinuate to me that the OP's mom married that man. It sounds like Op's dad married the Brother's mom. They could be step siblings or half siblings, and Op could have absolutely no connection to their Brother's dad. They could have their own dad, which would make no sense to call their Brother's dad- their own dad?? Yknow??

Anyways, everyone's family is different, don't start assuming stuff. Even I could be wrong, since I don't even know the person.
