There is a myth that calcium is the main mineral you need for osteoporosis and to strengthen your bones.

The majority of what makes up bone is collagen, which is protein. There is calcium in your bones, but it’s tied up with phosphorus.

In some interesting studies, they found that taking calcium doesn’t prevent bone fractures. There is also strong evidence that taking a calcium supplement can increase the risk of cardiovascular problems.

It’s essential to get enough vitamins, minerals, and trace minerals in your diet. The most important vitamins for bone health are vitamin D and vitamin K2.

Another factor in your bone health is your hormones. For example, a deficiency in estrogen or high cortisol can lead to osteoporosis.

Bone loss isn’t contributed to one thing. Overall, to build bone, you need to focus on creating a healthy body.

The best source of calcium to help strengthen the bones is dairy. But, a combination of plants and dairy is great for supporting healthy calcium levels.

Signs and symptoms of a calcium deficiency:
• Muscle spasms
• Tetany
• Changes in heart rate
• Numbness around the mouth
• Numbness in the fingertips and feet
• Spasm in the larynx (hoarseness, rough-sounding voice, a lump in the throat)
• Consuming excessive amounts of protein, sodium, coffee, soft drinks, and refined sugar

Calcium is needed for your health, but it may be best to get it from food. One of the biggest health benefits of calcium is that it may help prevent certain intestinal cancers. Keep in mind that you need plenty of vitamin D and magnesium to absorb calcium.

I got my mum onto D3 combined with K2 and unfortunately she fell and broke her hip in December. However, the surgeon said that her bones were quite strong, making the resulting surgery a resounding success. I'm of the belief that the D3 K2 played a major part in her healing. She's almost 75 by the way and also takes magnesium each day.

I have my parents on d3 k2 and magnesium and my mom reversed her osteoperosis over just a couple of years.

This is the world we live -
a single youtube channel that helps millions of people everyday by educating on how to actually live healthy,
in contrast where the doctors around you are arrogant, doesn't really listen in you and closely work together with pharmaceutical industries to just prescribe some profitable drugs.

Arugula is low in oxalates. Plus it helps lower your blood pressure. Arugula is so healthy for you, everyone should go around wearing t-shirts that say arugula on it.

On the subject of Osteoporosis:
There's also the interruption of the hydroxyapatite crystalline lattice in bones by the introduction of Fluorine ions (from "fluoride" or "fluorine-containing" chemicals). Fluorapatite has a differently-sized structure, so can cause porous bones where it displaces Calcium-based apatite. It's like building a brick house with differently-sized bricks - the core structure will be irregular, less strong, and have holes/cavities in its structure.

So, when doctors give patients fluoride tablets to treat osteoporosis, to apparently "strengthen bones", they're doing a disservice to the patient.

My grandmom and aunt used to feed us ghee saying it’s good for bones. Apparently, ghee is rich in vitamin k2. Thanks for this great information Dr. Berg!

A huge Thank You. For the first 40 years of my life I drank only milk, and for over 10 years I took supplement calcium.
If these helped, I would have the best bones ever, and I don't.

Your comprehensive knowledge and presentation is far better than seeing a doctor that just ignores you and says oh I don't do anything about vitamins.

Again, best doctor around! I am frequently questioning and disturbed by the fact that the majority of doctors do not promote, educate or advocate this information. Its unbelievable. I work in aged care, and every resident admitted with a diagnosis of Osteoporosis is immediately commenced on Calcium carbonate, with no blood tests done for Vit D levels or any other relevant levels, and the poor families are left paying exorbitant amounts for calcium tablets when it is not the solution, yet the families feel obliged to pay for this despite its complete ineffectiveness. We need more doctors like you Dr Berg. If every doctor had the knowledge, skill set and willingness to educate their patients the way you do, imagine the health benefits for society as a whole. We love you, I wish you were my sole lecturer at Uni whilst undertaking my RN degree.

My doctor recommended I take calcium 2 times a day when I was diagnosed with osteopenia. When my next bone scan showed I was moving closer to Osteoporosis, they upped my calcium to 3 times a day. I subsequently developed AFIB as my calcium, magnesium and potassium levels were so out of whack. I have since started taking D3/K2 twice a day and no calcium at all. I take magnesium 2 pills in the morning and one at night. Anytime I have an AFIB event, (rarely now) I drink your electrolyte mix and within 30 minutes my AFIB ends. Thank you for all the information that you pass on to us.
