In this video, we’re going to talk about postmenopausal osteoporosis.

A lot of women who go through menopause end up having bone loss. What causes this condition, and what can you do about it?

There are two types of cells in the bone:
• Osteoclasts – breaks down bone
• Osteoblasts – builds bone

A decrease in estrogen after menopause causes stimulation in osteoclasts and a decrease in osteoblasts.

Cortisol is a very destructive hormone to your bones. An increase in cortisol will stimulate osteoclasts and inhibit osteoblasts.

The female hormones, estrogen, and progesterone are produced by the ovary and the adrenals. When you go through menopause, and the adrenals are not strong enough to back up these hormones, you will end up with even less estrogen and more cortisol.

What you can do to support your bone health after menopause:

1. Support your adrenals (decrease stress, exercise, and increase vitamin D)

2. Build bone (calcium citrate, magnesium, boron, trace minerals, vitamins D3 and K2)

3. Dairy (grass-fed)

Thank you for addressing more topics for post menopausal women. We are desperate to maintain health the correct way and I personally feel that we don't have a lot of time to do it.

Thanks for putting up with our questions about our health after menopause. Our aging boomer generation did not get the answers we needed from our moms and grandmothers, as you know, they didn't ask questions and we didn't get answers. So, we need you to help us understand the mechanisms WHY things occur, which you are SO good at addressing. Thanks Dr. Berg!

Great topic and information! I went through menopause in 2020 and recently found out I have osteoporosis of the lumbar spine! I am a personal trainer and have worked out for years so this came as a complete shock to me. Right now I am taking all your advice and I will not take prescription medicine for this! I will keep you updated on my progress! thank you!

I am very athletic 54 year old woman and have been for years. I wasn’t born with a strong bone density, I am 5.4 and have been 110 lbs all my life. My life style is ideal, no alcohol, no smoking no process food, supplements, organic greens, name very active etc. I don’t suffer from any illnesses or medical conditions. After menopause which went like a breeze, I suffered from 7 fractures, the first one was a rib from a simple hug from someone who squeezed me a little too much! And then, I broke a foot, more ribs, sternum and my left wrist in 2 years time. My Bone density scan was clearly indicating high risk, from - 3.0 to -3.5 ( spine, hip etc)
My doctor said that by the look of it, i developed it from my early 30s. My mom broke her femur at 36, and broke 26 bones after that.
I am the only girl to have inherited of that disease in The family, sadly..I found better supplements, so I am hoping to improve my bone density, but it will take time, for sure. Thank you for sharing you suggestions.

Thank Dr. Berg.
My last bone density test results showed some osteoporosis. My doctor prescribed actonel. I have not filled the prescription. I prefer to address without drugs.
I read an article by Dr. Suzanne Humphrey’s. She said osteoporosis is actually scurvy of the bones. It isn’t caused by a lack of calcium but a lack of sufficient vitamin c. She also recommends k2 and d3. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I watched this video because my brother told me last night that his wife has osteoporosis. She is in her early 70s. Incredibly, the medicine her doctor put her on for it has the side effect of broken bones.🤦🏻‍♀️ So I am going to share your videos with her on the topic. I am 14 years post menopausal and so far I am fine in this area. Last year I started to apply the information in your videos, so I think I will continue to be fine. Thank you, Dr Berg!
