Will I Have LOOSE SKIN After WEIGHT LOSS?

"Will I get loose skin after losing 50, 60 or even 100 pounds?" As a fitness and nutrition coach, I get this question all the time from my fat loss students.

This depends a lot on how much weight you've lost, your age and genetics. In my experience, if you've lost a significant amount of weight, you will most likely have some loose skin. Many transformation pics you see online may not be a good representation because loose skin can be less visible under the right lighting and/or with some photoshop.

The truth is, it is quite normal to have some loose skin. In fact, I have loose skin after losing weight myself. In this video I discuss the topic in more detail and provide some real world suggestions on how you can deal with it and what you can expect as you go through your fat loss journey.

I appreciate your vulnerability and honesty about this. I’ve been struggling with some loose skin in the same area because of weight loss. I still have a little ways to go and I’m hoping it will tighten up over time. Thanks again Lee.

I've lost over 100 pounds and I do have loose skin but I am able to hide it but still it doesn't bother me cause it's a reminder of how far I've come. Great video

I thank you for your sincerity and transparency. Though I have about 10 more pounds to go, I have lost approximately 45 pounds and was feeling self-conscious about my lose skin to the point of almost quitting.

Well I can tell you if I had to do it all over again my first priority in life would be not to gain weight and to protect my health. I would have done this in my twenties. Eating bad and gaining weight just destroys your body and health. I don't care how much you try to eat healthy and workout once you become obese the damage is done most of the time permanently. I try to do everything lift weights, eat a WFPB diet and run, however I still have lose skin, collections of fat here and there. The worse thing is the stretch marks. I have been following a healthy life style for years and everything is still a mess!

I let myself go really bad after a bad 4 year breakup followed by the pandemic 2-3 months after the bad breakup. I went from 6'2 250 pounds (was 215 but at the time I was 250) to 374 pounds. I've been seeing a nutricionist and I've lost around 10 pounds so far. I bet I'm gonna need surgery if I ever want to not have it visibly noticeable. It's also an honorable mention that I also suffer from gynecomastia.

Another thing to bear in mind is that the faster you lose weight, the more loose skin you are likely to have, especially if you are a bit older. If you lose weight slowly then you can give your skin time to recover with its natural elasticity. Fast weight loss won't allow that. If you are losing slowly, there are oils, creams etc which can help your skin's elasticity during the process. And if, like me you tend to yo-yo with your weight then you'll also possibly get stretch marks, which I suffer with quite badly and there isnt really any way to hide those short of makeup or photoshop.

Oh hell, I'll be happy if, or better yet when I get to the point I have that issue!

As you've seen already, Lee, I have a significant of loose skin after losing 125+lbs. Surgery is the only option for me

Thanks for the video. I've lost a little over 100lbs and struggle with loose skin around the chest and belly (little on the butt too). It's a reminder of how fat I once was. Building muscle helps. I've recently also have been supplementing Gotu Kola as well. I've heard it can take up to 6 months to see any results for tightening skin, we'll see. It is worse when I'm in a plank position or bending over. Might just have to live with a little loose skin as a reminder that I've gone through such a huge transformation. Surgery would be nice one day, but I'd rather live a longer and healthier life that be obese.

I’m 22 I’ve lost about 110-120 pounds so far I’m at 250 and I want to be around 180. I’ve noticed my skin is flabby. I’m not sure if that’s just stages of fat loss that will go away with lower weight or if it’s lose skin that’s creeping up.
Hope I could get an answer

Thanks so much for this mate.
I have similar loose skin as you and it makes me depressed and angry sometimes.
Ive spent so many hours in the gym and built a good physique but that loose skin totally hinders my hard work
When i lean forward or sit down it makes me look fat.

I’m 22, female, 5 ft 7, my heaviest was 170 lbs, I have been overweight for 5 years, I lost 20 lbs last year then regained 10. I’m starting to lose weight again and I am now at 157 lbs, and I’m aiming to get down to 130 lbs. Am I likely to have a lot of loose skin?

Everything you say in this video is spot on. I lost 30 kgs 6 years ago and kept my self fit since. I am 51 years old now and my loose skin is still getting better but is not perfect ( very similar to yours) so it is something I will have to live with.
But there are a few things you can do to help. Dry rubbing with a hard bath brush or a luffa sponge is good for peeling off the old skin for example and talking a collagen powder is a way to help your skins elasticity. Don't expect wonders but over time you do see an improvement

Holy sh*t Lee. I have always been too much of a blimpophobe to let my weight ever go up. I am 73 years old and my abdominal skin is not tight but fortunately it never got stretched.
