starting today, i’m learning to surprise my dad who used to play his guitar for me when i was a kid, but he lost his ability to play after his ms took the feeling from his hands. i’m going to eventually learn every song he played for me so i can play them for him in his old age

Building a foundation is so important. 16 years ago, I would just sit at the computer and spend several hours learning solos like eruption.. Yeah I got better, but i couldn't stay in key when improvising, I didn't know how to play the correct notes other than memorizing what sounded good. The moral of the story is, learn the basics so you understand what you are playing. I can't thank this dude enough for putting out these courses.

Thought I'd come back here & recommend this channel to any beginner just starting their journey. Other channels don't have anything like this standard or variety that I've seen, and breaking each lesson down to 10-20 min vids gives you no excuse not to hit one each day.

I'm a long-time beginner (£50 Encore from a mate in 1992!) but have now made some genuine progress with YGA. After this series I did the Beginners Rhythm, Beginners Lead Level 1, a few of the Guitar Gym vids and have just started the Acoustic Fingerstyle Level 1. I'm definitely improving now and am planning my future progress through the YGA videos - there's so many paths to choose from. They've put a lot of thought and work into this, and I find it astounding. Well done YGA crew! 👍👍👍 👏👏👏 🎸🎸🎸

Hi, I feel compelled to comment on your videos after looking through around 10 of them and I've started to work my way into the early ones.
I've been trying to learn to play the guitar for quite a long time. I've had some private lessons and like many other people trawled through loads of you tube tutorials.
I've got to say that I'm SO SO impressed with your approach.
Without wanting to run all the others down as they are probably well intentioned I personally have never come across anyone who teaches in your way.
You seem to be integrating bite sized chunks of the different skills needed to play the guitar like simple chords, strumming techniques, finger exercises, scales, timing etc etc and gradually bringing them up together in a very understandable and structured way and I have never come across this before.
Unfortunately for me I seem to be stumbling at the early stage of the spider as I don't seem to be able to get the stretch between the fingers and the more I bend the joints of the fingers to achieve pressing with the tips the more the fingers come together!
I've tried coming further down the neck to the 10th fret but then my arm feels very constricted coming down that far and I still can't do it with fingers bent on the lower notes.
I'll keep picking the guitar up every day in the hope I can improve but any advice you can offer would be greatfuly received but understand if you can't.
I would just like to reiterate that I am truly very impressed with your approach and I mean all I say and that I think if I can't learn with your approach then I don't think I ever will!
