Having audio in only one of your ears (or speakers) is a very common and embarrassing problem. Luckily Davinci Resolve make fixing this super simple, and that's exactly what we go over in this no nonsense quick tip tutorial.

Another issue: every time I create a new timeline in a project, I get audio only in left ear for mono tracks. The solution is to double-click on "Pan" settings in Mixer and turn it off or bring back to center. For some strange reason for every new timeline (except the first one) it always is initially set up to full left.

Another option:
In Timeline
Right click audio track
Choose "Change Track Type To"
Choose "Mono".

Thanks for this tip man. Especially the one keeping it in timeline... Having received projects that have this issue, it would have been an absolute chore going through the process of re-importing the clips onto timeline.

I feel attacked haha I just did this. I know better but when you rush around, you get complacent. But yeah it always sucks to re-upload. Or look silly. 😂

Even with two channels playing on the left and right side-- a mono channel duplicated, OR stereo channels such as music ... even when they are equal loudness, Resolve plays the left side about 3 to 4 times as loud as the right side. I've come across several posts about this issue, not ONE with a reason as to why; and it's because there is NO reason why it should do this. I just watched a project I had exported a few months ago... noticed the imbalance immediately, reopened the project to see the audio equally loud in left and right, all pans in the center and yet the left side is noticeably louder. Stuff like this makes Resolve unusable in my opinion, anyone who wants to make qualify videos can't be troubleshooting things as idiotic as that; and to make it worse no one knows why? I know more about audio production that video editing myself and all I can say is, there is ZERO excuse for the audio playback and export to be that way given what you see in the interface... unbelievable!

Very helpful, thank you! First time a video i've been editing has come defaulted to Mono. Very bizarre.

Brilliant. Really helpful. Now could you just nip back in time and tell me that before I edited and rendered 12 videos with dodgy unbalanced sound?

Also sometimes Davinci resolve will set your second track to Stereo in one ear, I have no clue why. But go into the Fairlight tab, find the track and change track type to "mono"

I've figured out the clip attributes for my mono audio sources but didn't know about simply adding a mono track. Thanks for the tip!

When I preview my file, there's sound in both ears, but as soon as I add it into Resolve, I can only hear the audio in my left ear
