Lets Do A Hill Start

How to do a hill start as a learner driver on driving lessons can be scary. You worry about rolling back on your driving lesson or stalling and rolling back. Understanding what causes the car to roll back on your driving lesson will help you to complete the hill start correctly.
So to move off on a hill start will need a couple of things for you to do. Firstly when you are ready to drive off, increase the gas pedal from 1100rpm to 1500 to 2000rpm, the extra power is to help the car when moving up the hill. Secondly you would also need more of the biting point on the clutch pedal, so the clutch would need to be a bit higher.
When you completed these two things and your know its clear and safe to drive off on the hill start, then proceed by releasing the handbrake just a little, if the car moves forward continue releasing the handbrake and drive off. If the car starts to roll a little, just lift the handbrake up more and then lift the clutch a bit more. Then carry on with moving off when it's safe to do so again.

Helped massively. Thanks. Particularly like the point that - ‘if the front of the car goes up, the car won’t roll’

Tried to do a hill start in my car today in 1 revs, rolled back, tried revs of up to 2 rolled back again. My car needs so much gas compared to my instructors car. My instructors car can balance on the clutch on a hill😮! The difference is insane!😂

Thanks for this video. I learnt in a diesel car and virtually never stalled. Passed my test 2 weeks ago and bought a small 1100 petrol car and I'm stalling frequently. There is a huge hill with traffic lights at the top on my way to work and yesterday I stalled 5 times in a row at it and thought I would not make it. Almost got out and abandoned the car. It's destroyed my confidence and my general driving is pretty good but hill starts in my new car bring me out in a cold sweat. I get the biting point but when I release the hand brake I conk out or roll back. I'm ok on mild hills but this one hill I need to use on my work journey is one of the steepest hills in the city and it terrifies me!!!!

I've actually passed my test but I live in a place with lots of hairpin bends on steep hills and I keep bottling it. This was helpful taking me back to basics

Hey great video! This would have been awesome when I was struggling with this but gonna still take the advice on here so I can be better 😊 can you do one at starting from a traffic light? I seem to be stalling when moving off from a traffic light. Thanks for the awesome videos. They really are helpful :3

I have to go up a hill on my way to work. I am so anxious about going to work in rush hour traffic and having to stop on the hill, that I've asked if I can start later. But I know I can't do that forever. Thank you for the video, I still feel very nervous about it all though.

When I was learning to drive I was rubbish at hill starts, my only struggle now is driving on a hill in stop-start traffic but I'll get there in the end

I've been battling with the car rolling back on the hill. When I learnt, I was told never to have clutch and accelerator pressed at the same time. But I see you in the video you have them both pressed at some point.

In the case of driving uphill but going for a turn first in the main road
- I live in an an uphill community, but I have to turn left or right depending on what side of road I'm in. So what I do, I stop the car then upon going up that uphill I hit the clutch with brake, turn the steering wheel to the desired direction, first gear, release the brake then gas on to 2000 RP. Am I doing the right thing?

I don't mind a little hill and roll but sometimes there's these really steep hills that make me nervous and it feels like u burn up some clutch I hate it..

If you want to demonstrate your ability at hill starts and skill of avoiding them in a very stressful situation. Try driving to the top level of a multi-storey car park when its busy. There is no more extreme test of actual car control to be found.

Do you have a video on Alley docking? I've had numerous driving tests and fail time and time again due to this
I'd be ever so grateful if you could upload one
