As a cardiac nurse, "palpitations" is an umbrella term to mean any kind of arrhythmia and began to be used instead of naming the arrhythmia. I worked on telemetry and we had to run strips on each patient and chart them with the name of the rhythm written above the tracing. We never used "palpitations". Its important to know that term can mean just feeling you heart beat hard for a few seconds while having a regular rhythm or it can mean sinus tach or afib or PAC's or PVC's, bundle branch block, different types of blocks, vtach or vfib. So if you think you have palpitations it's important to get an ECG to see what that rhythm is. Your doctor might have you wear a monitor for a few days or weeks so the rhythm can be identified. If you wear one that has a push button to trach the arrhythmia please know that the button won't call 911 for you. It's just to earmark that time for the doctor to later interpret after you send it in to the company or doctors office. There was one lady who almost died because she pushed her cardiac monitor button thinking someone was watching it in real time. No. It's only being recorded continually and the button push is for earmarking the time. Valsalva maneuver is only for fast rates. But if your having skipped beats with a pause you don't want to bear down to make your rate even slower! Hope that helps.

How do you calm a racing heart?
An individual can stimulate the vagus nerve with vagal maneuvers,
which include:
- Holding the breath and pushing down, as though having a bowel movement (Valsalva maneuver)
- Placing ice or a cold, damp towel on the face for a few seconds.
- Splashing cold water on the face.
- Chanting “ Om “
- Blowing through an occluded straw.

How to slow heart rate down fast?
Simple but specific actions such as coughing, bearing down as if passing stool or putting an ice pack on the face can help slow down the heart rate. Your healthcare team may ask you to do these specific actions during an episode of a fast heartbeat. The actions affect the vagus nerve.

#4 & #5 will resolve 90% of people with this issue, #4 is even more important than #5 and proper nutrition will make #1 void, people don't realize that if you get the proper nutrition through proper diet, stress usually takes care of itself because your body has what it needs to prevent stress from building in the first place.

This video seems to confuse palpitations with a fast heartbeat. They are not the same. You can have palpitations with a completely normal heart rate.

Sometimes one doesn't have control over stress! I lost my full time job during the 2009 Recession, the car broke down, and my husband had a heart attack and needed triple bypass. All that happened within one month. I have palpitations since 2006. My MD raised my Metropolol dosage again and again, didn't help. All tests always within normal range. Last week l was told l might need pacemaker. I have changed cardiologists four times, but l never feel well. I am 73, female.

How to reduce heart palpitations IN MY EXPERIENCES (age 58): Avoid cologne. Almost every brand of cologne or female perfume personally gives me heart palpitations. So I try my best to avoid them outright. Avoid food colors and artificial flavors. A lot of food additives cause heart palpitations, so I avoid them completely. Take electrolytes and drink clean water, avoid juices and sodas or keep them to a bare minimum. And also, be sure to keep your simple sugars under 50 grams per day, because too much sugar (sucrose, maltodextrin, dextrose, fructose, honey, table syrup) also causes heart palpitations. Cleanse your stomach, digestive tract and colon. How? I use a three-herb concoction that you can buy almost anywhere online. These herbs are powerful so you must use with caution. Very low doses to start. The three herbs are wormwood, black walnut hull powder, and clove powder. Make sure your herbs are super fresh or your cleanse won't work.
Good luck and Namaste! 🙌🙏

Have had an irregular heart beat for years. I definitely put it down to anxiety and stress but also my multiple sclerosis is another reason why it happens.

Thanks for these remedies, however Cold Shower is risky..It causes sudden, high pressure in the capillaries in the brain, because the heart will pump a high amount of blood to the brain, so it should be avoided as much as possible.

I have a heavy heartbeat caused by intense exercise and nervousness. This heaviness is not just something I can feel myself, but also noticeable vibrations in my heart and abdomen. However, my heart rate is still within the normal range, which greatly affects my sleep. Another symptom is feeling tired even when I am very tired. To put it bluntly, physical fatigue does not help with sleep, and after exercise or work, my heart rate is difficult to calm down. My heavy heartbeat becomes even more pronounced and greatly affects sleep. No matter how tired I am, I don't feel sleepy at night. Moreover, my heart rate accelerates when I dream, and my heart rate is fast with a heavy heartbeat. How can I find the cause and treat it? My English is not good, this was translated using translation software
