The all-new 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross is much more than a higher-riding version of Australia’s best-selling small car positioned alongside the C-HR and between the smaller Yaris Cross and larger RAV4.

It might borrow a household name that spans 12 generations, but the Toyota Corolla Cross debuts a host of tech not seen before on a Toyota car in Australia, plus the Japanese brand’s latest fifth-generation hybrid powertrain.

But how does it all translate behind the wheel? We sent Ali Lawrence to the Australian launch of Toyota’s eighth SUV to find out.

Checking Toyota Japan webisite and find that, the 2022 facelift Corolla Cross [4WD, 1.8L + Motor, Hybrid] with old 7 inches driver display is 3, 199, 000 Yen, which is less than 34, 000 AUD. While in Australia, the entry leve GX, FWD, 2.0 L Hybrid is almost 40, 000 AUD comparing to the entry level in Japan, only 2, 590, 000 Yen, which is less than 27, 500 AUD.

She said it is 25 mm (1 inch) higher than the hatch. Actually, it is 190mm higher, i.e. 7.5 inches.

To be honest GXL hybrid 2WD is good enough no need to spend too much money for the top-spec, why pay an extra $10k for no spare wheels and the roof can't be open? Compared with the RAV4 is kind of expensive but the corolla cross is had mobile control with live-time GPS to locate the vehicle, and 🆘 button to press for roadside assistance, for this price like a Mercedes and Lexus service I think is worth it.

Toyota New Zealand charges $44k for the GXL version. Yes we need one, cause the Yaris Cross & CHR have baby weak engines (under 99kw) where as the Corolla Cross has about 146kw, which means noticeably less revs. With new gen touch screen display with WIRELESS android/apple car play. Larger back seat passenger cabin space and larger windows. Back seat passenger doors open WIDER. Due to the global recession/chip shortages/COVID, I'd have to wait until 2025 to get one if I didn't want to take out a loan. I could get the Yaris Cross. High rider is a popular growing trend. You can "bully" those little street cars, and it gives you a viewing advantage.
