Let's talk about UNDERBITES ...including causes and treatment! An underbite is a physical characteristic where the front lower teeth set out further than — or even overlap — the front upper teeth. Typically, you want to have an extremely slight, natural overbite where the upper front teeth barely overlap the lower front teeth. But when it’s the other way around — in the case of an underbite — it can lead to a host of complications. Understanding underbite causes and how to correct an underbite can help you (or your child) find relief.

Too bad insurance never covers anything to do with underbites, especially as an adult.. as children who are neglected never get the chance to get this fixed.

I had a SEVERE underbite all through childhood throughout high school and I was humiliated and terrorized being called Bubba Gump on the bus and in classes and my roommate during my first year in college called Trap jaws from he man and I had two set of braces and two sets of oral surgery to get it corrected by in the fall of 99 ending in 2000. Very special thanks and gratitude to my Mom for providing the insurance to get it ALL fixed.

This marks the decade post op for me, both top and bottom jaw surgeries to correct underbite. Best decision of my life and definitely has helped me maintain better oral health!

I have an underbite, and b/c of it, I have to get a tooth from my lower jaw removed, and then have Invisalign aligners placed on my upper and bottom teeth so they get corrected over time.

Ok, well, I believe my original underbite was because my teeth grew in differently where my bottom incisors came in ahead of my uppers... it was just like that.

Went to ortho at 17, told it was too late and needed surgery costing a total of 60k without insurance. Crazy stuff lol. At 15.50 per hour that would take a total of 4000 hours of work to cover and excluding tax with tax maybe an extra 500

Man, i had an upper jaw expander for 2 or 3 years, followed by braces for almost 3 years. It sucked but well worth it. Now i just have TMJ pain due to constant unintentional clenching/grinding. Moving my lower jaw left and right results in limited motion and sometimes popping.
