In the novel, Guangzhi and Guangmou are two apprentices of the Elder Jinchi, they abetted the Elder to burn Tang Seng (Sun Wukong's Master) to death in his sleep, because the Elder was extremely greedy and wanted to take possess of Tang Seng's kasaya. The Elder had been collecting beautiful kasayas for many years, yet as he saw the one Tang Seng had, he knew he must have it. But because Sun Wukong secretly protected his master by covering him in a fire-repelling cage that he borrowed from other deities, the fire ended up burning the whole Guanyin Temple down, and the Elder Jinchi, hopeless and frustrated, hit himself against the wall and died. That kasaya then was stolen by the Black Bear Guai, who was also in connection with the Elder.

Hey Jev when you’re using the fire guy spell you want to use light attacks in order to fill up the focus meter. Once the focus meter is filled, you unlock a great high damage attack

The final dialogue(25:53) expresses a concept rooted in Eastern philosophy. The black bear asks Guanyin Bodhisattva why a monk needs to wear the kasaya. Guanyin Bodhisattva replies that only by wearing the kasaya can a monk proclaim to the world that he is a practitioner. This response invites contemplation: as a practitioner, is one’s practice truly internal, or is it merely external? Extending this to other cultures, when you follow your faith, are you pursuing the essence of the faith itself, or are you simply trying to show others that you are a follower? If you are truly following your heart, why care about how others perceive you? You need to ask yourself what you are truly seeking. This is why Elder Jinchi, despite living for a hundred years, was never able to attain enlightenment.
Yes, this is a story about greed, but is it just about greed?

The only Context you will ever need, from an Asian man growing up watching all the films and have read all the novels about Sun Wukong :

This game happens after the events in the novel Journey To The West - a Chinese novel written in the 16th Century. In the novel, Wukong was a monkey born from a magical stone. At the beginning of the Universe, Nuwa ( the Goddess of Creation ) used her power to create all lives in the Universe, the excess energy from that event takes the form of 5 stones ( Wukong was born from 1 of those 5 stones ). Think of it like the Infinity Stones - enormous cosmic power. These 5 stones are then scattered among the Realms, one of them lands on the Mountain of Flowers and Fruits. After thousands of years absorbing energy of the Heaven and the Earth, the stone cracked, giving birth to a magical monkey - Sun Wukong.

He was incredibly strong and smart from birth, and was named the Monkey King by all the monkeys in the Mountain. But, he still could not defeat aging and death. So he roams the land, seeking a master to learn the secret of immortality. After a long time practicing Taoism magics, and had achieved immortality, he returns to his mountain and named himself The Great Sage equals to Heaven. His playful and cocky nature doesn't sit well with the Celestial Court ( led by the Jade Emperor ), so between them, there was a beef. Fearing that Wukong would cause destruction, the Jade Emperor offered him a job in Heaven. During this time, he wanders around 33 levels of the Heavenly Palace, achieved 7 more layers of immortality ( by eating A WHOLE ASS GARDEN of immortality peaches, drinking Wine of Immortality, eating gourds of ). He even goes as far as going to Hell, bullying the God of Death, and erases his name out of the Book of Death, granting him another layer of immortality. Wukong is technically a force of the Universe, and now he can't die due to 7 layers of immortality. These acts made the Jade Emperor furious.

Then, the Jade Emperor ordered the Celestial Court to sent 100.000 heavenly soldiers ( including Erlang Shen and the Four Heavenly Kings in the video above ) upon him, Sun Wukong defeated them all. He destroys the whole Heavenly Palace and threaten the life of the Jade Emperor. In a panic, the Jade Emperor had to ask the All Mighty Buddha to intervene. Buddha defeated Wukong, and trapped him under a mountain for 500 years to teach him a lesson. After leaving, Buddha said that in order to repent for his sins, Wukong must embark on a Journey.

His mission was to escort a monk named Tang Sanzang from the East ( China ) to the West Heaven ( India ) to acquire the Scriptures of Buddha. Guanyin ( the right hand of Buddha ) gave Tang Sanzang the Golden Headband to keep Wukong in check ( because Tang Sanzang was only a mere weakling mortal ). By chanting the right words, the Headband will tighten around Wukong's forehead, giving him excruciating headache ( that's what happened in the video - maybe someone was reading the chant when Wukong turns into a bird - could be Buddha or Guanyin, i don't know ). After 17 YEARS of walking ON FOOT, defeating hundreds of monsters, they reached the West Heaven and acquired the Scriptures of Buddha. The party, including Tang Sanzang, Sun Wukong, Pigsy and Sandy - were all given Buddhahood for their achievements. Sun Wukong was named The Victorious Fighting Buddha. All the events in this game happen after that.

I hope this would give Western audience more insights, and hopefully, more love for the beautiful story of Journey To The West. I highly suggest you all watch the film adaptations ( the most well-loved in Asia was the 1986 adaptation, the CGI is bad, but the story is beautiful. It is a long and profound story of the Journey, teaching us about love, compassion, and humanity, guiding us all on the Journey to achieve godhood ).

"It's crazy; I've been watching Jason since late 2017 or early 2018, just before the BO4 days started, and I've watched basically watched every single video since then. Jason is the only person I know so well but have never met😂😂 . I legit watched this man all through high school, and now I still watch him while working. I love the Black Myth: Wukong videos and the longer videos he uploads. Jason needs to upload more longer videos!"

Jev not to spoil anything but completing side quests are a major part of the story in later chapters. And lore wise just elevates the story to next level. That being said, please try to 100% a chapter before heading into the next. The game is so much more enjoyable that way. Love your videos❤

Hi Jev. Just a couple of tips for using Guangzhi (the wolf transformation). He’s much more powerful if you use auto more to build up his stack, and then he has two ults once the meters are filled. Don’t use the heavy/dash attack too much as it depletes the energy(time you have left) whereas auto (light attack) does not and builds up the meter. The heavy attack super high damage and cool animation. Super satisfying to use. You can also put more points into it to use it longer. I can pull off two, even three ults with it

Journey to the West is one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature, written in the 16th century by 吴承恩 (Wu Chengen).
The novel is a mix of myth, folklore, and religious elements, and it has had a profound impact on Chinese culture and literature.
The story follows the journey of the monk 玄奘法师 (Master Xuanzang) (aka. 唐三藏 Tang Sanzang) from the Tang Dynasty who is tasked with traveling to India to retrieve sacred Buddhist scriptures.
It was said that Master Xuanzang’s team had to go through 81 challenges during their journey before they could successfully reach the Buddha.
These tribulations are tests of their resolve, faith, and character, designed to purify them and help them achieve spiritual enlightenment.

A kasaya indicates the rankings of one’s practice as a Buddhist. Like armors for the soldiers. The higher the ranking, the nicer the kasaya. Younger/ newer/ lesser ranked monks don’t get to have kasaya. TangSeng’s kasaya was given by the Emperor of Tang, it was bejeweled with thousands of precious stones, diamonds and all. It was given to TangSeng to honor his purity and his determination for this treacherous journey. It is because he cut the ties with the society, his emotions and his impure thoughts that he was given that. It represented his high achievements in Buddhist practice.

In the original book, the monks admired his kasaya very much, and wanted to keep it for himself, so they conspired to kill TangSeng. The black bear in the original book also were practicing Buddhist/ immorality, he wants to achieve higher mind, and he also admired the Kasaya because of that. Hence he stole it after the temple was burnt. Both the bear and the monk wanted to use the kasaya to show how good their practice was, to show off that they’ve cut the ties, including lust... however, the act of being so entrenched by the idea of the kasaya and what it represent is completely the opposite of what “cutting the ties” mean. Hence the sage in the forest scolded their act in the animated story.
