I"m a liberal democrat, but one piece of ongoing hypocrisy I see in games journalism is the issue of "cultural relativism." Progressive critics have been tearing down the values and ideas of western culture for a few decades, claiming no culture is better than any other culture...All cultures are equal.... Yet now, if a foreign developer depicts characters that don't reflect our western view of Gender, Identity, and Race, then they are "bad" and deserve criticism.... Not sure on what basis that could be. Demanding equal representation of gender and race is an anti-art, anti-intellectual stance that is condescending and, yeah, I'm going to say, a kind of "cultural imperialism." Ha!

Level 3: Even among Chinese people, not everyone realizes that Journey to the West is a satirical novel rooted in realism. This game draws inspiration from the hidden "blackness" within the novel's depths, presenting a world of inverted morality that echoes the original's subtle commentary on the struggle between Buddhism and Taoism, and its satirical take on reality.
This explains why Chinese gamers have higher expectations for this game. It's not just about it being the first Chinese AAA title, but because its multi-layered cultural depth transcends the game itself.
