This is an awesome trick that I use all the time. P.S. I find you can get stronger magnetism if you swipe the magnetic the same direction, as in you always swipe the magnet from the base to the point, instead of back and forth.

For best results if you're magnetizing your bits for holding screws to them, rub the magnet on it in only one direction and do it the same direction each time. The iron atoms' magnetic fields will line up more uniformly and produce an overall stronger magnet (not that it will be all that strong but there's a definite difference between one that has hade the magnets moved around them randomly, compared to one that the magnet was move in one direction on)

Reminds me of those magnetic toys when I was a kid. It was like a wheel on a track, and you'd kind of flick your wrist to make the wheel go round and round, flipping and reversing instead of falling out when the track widens. Best way to waste time

When I was a cabinet builder for a mass-producer of cheap junk (you'd know the company if I told you) we had magnet blocks with a hole in them that we'd use to magnetize our bits. The magnets don't need to touch the bit, so you can do what we did and hold the magnets next to the bit and squeeze the trigger for a few seconds. It's easy faster and has a stronger effect.
