Weight loss is fantastic! But, check out the incredible benefits of exercise that go beyond just weight loss.

0:00 Introduction: Exercise and recovery
0:50 Benefits of exercise beyond weight loss
6:55 Check out my video on exercise!

Today I’m going to share fifteen incredible benefits of exercise that go beyond weight loss alone.

Exercise is an epigenetic stimulus. This means that it can affect your genes in a powerful and positive way.

The body is meant to exercise. It even has over ten million sweat glands that act as its air conditioner. This helps us adapt to heat during exercise and allows the body to cool down.

Exercise activates a lot of different repair systems in the body. But, your results with exercise will depend on your rest and recovery. If you overtrain, you won’t experience many benefits.

15 incredible benefits of exercise:
1. It strengthens your autonomic nervous system
2. It decreases the risk of heart attacks
3. It decreases the risk of high blood pressure
4. It decreases the risk of stroke
5. It decreases the risk of cancer
6. It decreases the risk of diabetes
7. It decreases the risk of anxiety and depression
8. It decreases the risk of dementia
9. It decreases your stress
10. It increases your willpower
11. It can help reduce inflammation (with recovery)
12. It can help increase longevity
13. It can help improve fertility
14. It can help decrease low back pain and joint pain
15. It increases your energy

I used to workout mainly for physical looks when I was younger. Now I have to workout for the sake of my mental health. It’s what keeps me sane!

I'm 75 and started the 1 hour exercise class at the Senior Center a few weeks ago. It's difficult because I got out of the habit in the lockdowns, but I pause when out of breathe and need to rebuild my stamina. Immediately, I felt so much more happier and energized. When we're tired we think we need to rest, but we need activity to feel alive.

Absolutely! I need to exercise to enable me to sleep. My dear 97 year old Dad instilled this into me at an early age. Despite his reduced mobility because of knee problems (the surgeon botched the job several years ago and caused more problems) Dad continues to exercise to the best of his ability. It's what has kept him going.

Dr Berg, you literally, LITERALLY saved my life. From the bottom of my heart and on behalf of my friends and family, thank you. THANK YOU.
This time last year I weighed 16 stone (thats 224 pounds for the Americans) and im only 5ft9. Diabetes, high blood pressure, weak joints, gall stones, sleep apnea, you name it, I had it. I was basically disabled. Now I am 11.5 stone (161 pounds), diabetes gone, normal blood pressure, no more gall stones, dont even snore anymore. My doctors are a little worried about my cholestorol but I'm not. Ive never felt better. Thanks for all your hard work and never stop. God knows how many you've rescued from the abyss. All my love

I will be 64 later this year. I have been on a exercise regiment for 2 years now. I cannot tell you adequately in words what a difference this has made in my life. I have more energy to do the things that I want. I play roller hockey, street hockey and ice hockey 3 to 4 times a week. I triy to walk my dog at least 5 miles a day. I also bowl in a bowling League. Each day I start out the morning with stretching exercises and push-ups.
Yes learning to understand your body when you are pushing yourself too much is very important. That's why you have learn to rest your body so you can put more of a load on yourself. I had some muscle soreness issues but now I have less of an issue of soreness and more potential gain in physical fitness capacity. The key is you have to enjoy what you are doing. Then the sacrifice and some of the pain that goes with it will be well worth the effort.

Great video Dr. Berg! I lost my dad to Covid-19 last year in July 2021. The grieving time when you lose a parent is very bad because you will keep waking up at night because of the dreams of your deceased parent. I started to walk 2 miles a day and the exercise really helped the grieving process and the sleeping time at night because it reduced the anxiety and stress.

I've noticed when I attend my local gym for a 30 minutes work out, the next day I do not have high levels of anxiety or a feeling of depression.

This is true, recently I've been pretty much consistent with my workout. It feels so light and i was going through a rough phase in my life. It really made me push out negative behavior and release my stress. Now i can't wait everyday to workout. It's a feee therapy.

I have hated exercise all of my life, all I have ever done is walk...still well, still healthy at
my 75 years, normal weight and no pharmaceuticals, only tons of supplements. I
have always tried to, but my will could not. I wonder why, in my young years I ran around
4 children, mum and dad, no time. But respect the people who do.

Exercise keeps me mentally and physically fit.

I put aside everything and focus on what body can give the best of it, each time, a lil more...can be reps, weights, breaths or simply more resting time.

Start small : walks, swim, gardening, rowing, brings u a smile and joy.
Keep it steady.
Gradually increase the duration and frequency.

Your body is only yours. Only you can treat it in the BEST way.
